Just trust me, I won't be laid off.

I might have to work on projects beyond my expertise for a bit, but I will not be laid off.

Now.... I don't do anything. LOL But when I worked I would have gone mad in a job that could not give me something to keep busy. The day must be tedious sitting there with nothing to do. I honestly don't know how that could happen. Poor production has caused a lot of jobs to move out of country. How in the heck can everyone you work with have nothing to do? I'd fire most of you and find me one hungry person and pay him whatever he wanted if he produced.

Yes....if there is something to do. I am on salary, and sometimes it is required that I am simply there because one of our leads, or a supervisor under me is out. I watch the departments, and if by chance they are short on the floor I jump right in. Makes for a long slow day when nothing is going on.

don't worry about those types of comments. There is a very good reason 50% teachers quit after 5 years. Most posting on this thread could not do the job. A master teacher at work is a wonderful experience to see. Maybe one day some will see teachers for what they are. The key to all of ours success.

Yes I do feel guilty if I am not working hard. I usually try to find something to do or take care of my people so they are more productive and happy on the job. If they are happy and taking initiative because they are mentally taken care of throughout the day, then my day goes a lot smoother. That being said, I have to force myself to sit down and just relax for 15-20 minutes here and there because one can only go so hard throughout a 12 hour day without burning out. I have learned to ease up on the reins at the right time, therefore preserving my energy for the criticial periods of time.

Yes and no. In my job I have the luxury of sitting down and watching movies while working. I answer telephones. I am as productive as I can be but if there are no calls than I have nothing to do. I can't jump to another task because answering the phone is my task. When I worked for Pepsi yes I would feel bad because I always could find someone to help or something to do. It depends job to job so Hooker enjoy!!!! I know I enjoy my change of pace job.

There are a bunch of people laid off right now that used to feel the same way. At one time I was one of them. Don't ever think your field of expertise or education will make you immune to this.

Everyone is replaceable, some easier than others, but everyone is replaceable.

Especially if they can find someone to do it cheaper, or eliminate the need for it all together.

Good luck. I knew a LOT of people who thought their jobs were safe. And heck.....they weren't even bragging all over the internet how much they were milking their employer.

I'm with NY......different world. I like my world. The harder I work, the more successful I am.

I'm in the same boat with you two guys....

One of my ex bosses once told me something that is sooooo true......

"Stick your finger in a bucket of water, pull it out and see how big of a hole you leave"

This pertains for all the workers who work for someone else, I don't care how good you think you are......just look at all the presidents we have had ! LOL

Its like most things in life let your conscience be your guide.

But a word of advice, you should never attempt to start your own buisness.
