I love that that smiley is called dan.

I thought they might have Tractor Supply or Farm and Fleet groupons.... something like 'get half off your order of 200 lbs of layer feed'. :) Instead it's stuff like pedicures and foo foo restaurants waaaay over in the cities. LOL. Very :dan:

Say on the subject of tipping. I've got a question for you socialites. I have no problem tipping and feel I am pretty generous. We went out to a fancy place to eat quite a few years back. And no it wasn't McDonalds. The tip was figured into the bill. That kind of torgued me off... especially when they forgot about my order. The wife got her's. When I had to remind them... I had to wait another half hour to get cold crab legs. It was gross to tell you the truth. I wasn't a happy camper to start with. Them figuring in a tip on the bill seemed very wrong.

Would you guys have payed the figured in tip ?? I just wanted to get the damn ordeal over with... without ruining the wife's night out since we seldom get to go out. She enjoyed her food. I paid it and kept my mouth shut.

I really wanted to drag the cook out and make him eat the crappy crab legs. Well actually I wanted to do much worse as I was really looking forward to crab legs !!

I don't mind using them....but I doubt anyone would judge a guy in grad school for saving money when possible lol.

Matter of fact I have one I need to use next time I go back to KY on a steak dinner for two. Only other time I buy them is for half priced oil changes.

I've never experienced this unless it was with a party greater than 6.

If it was only 2 of us, and the restaurant did not mention the tip would be automatically included, then no, I would have asked them to take it off so I could tip the amount that I wanted.

With the end of "Don't ask.... Don't tell"... they're all coming out of the closet.

All through college I waited tables/bartended and when my day job got stingy with the overtime 4 years ago I started bartending again a couple shifts a week and did so until last month. Generally you won't see gratuity added in unless like someone else mentioned it is a party of 6 or more, the # varies depending on the restaurant and I can almost guarantee you it is in some small print either when you enter or on the menu. In the situation you described there is no way you should have paid the entire check much less the gratuity unless in some way the establishmnet corrected all the problems to your satisfaction.

A lot of people(myself included) don't like to complain or speak with a manager and realistically the server should have informed the manager of all the problems and sent the manager over on his own, but the bottom line is it's your money and you deserve a good product and good service and sometimes you have to speak to a manager(even if you call the next day so as not to upset the wife). Any kind of reputable restaurant will do anything they can to remedy that situation and if they don't never go there again and never recommend them to anyone.

On the original topic most servers don't mind coupons/groupons/whatever as long as the person does tip on the actual check total. Not surprisingly many people don't and that's why servers often cringe when they see them or do stuff like circle the original amount to "show you how much you saved".

Don't feel too sorry for the service industry workers, anyone who has served or bartended and is good at their job makes plenty of money especially considering the hours. I could watch all the sports I wanted, eat good food anytime I wanted, bs with the cool regulars, and easily average an extra $1600 a month working about 15 hours a week(don't get me wrong it's not all sunshine and lollipops) but for lack of a better phrase it's easy money. I made sure to leave on good terms because in this economy you just never know.

No, I've gone to numerous places I wouldn't have otherwise, thanks to groupon. I have gone back to many places afterwards, without groupons. When it comes to the things that aren't food related, why would I feel cheap. They put themselves on the website to gather business. The "discount" is generally provided by the website, not by the retailer. That's why you pay the website, and not the retailer. The advertising they sell make up for the cost savings they provide. You shouldn't feel guilty for taking advantage of a good deal, especially in this economy. Speaking of which, my favorite pizza restaurant was on groupon for $20 of fare for $10. I bought 6 groupons. 2 for me (max), and 2 for gifts for two people. I'll use them all and not feel guilty. :D
