I am talking outside of population control ... (varmints, feral species, etc)

If you do, what and why? No wrong answer ... just curious

Yes. If I'm killing it. I'm eating it.

I can't eat everything I kill, I give a lot away, whether it's to family/friends or the HFH program.

I only kill what I intend to eat. To answer your question as to why, I simply don't believe in killing just to kill. That's not to say that "the kill" part of the hunt isn't a rush. To me, it absolutely is. It's just that personally, I am not at all comfortable with killing for no reason other than "because I can". When I'm deer hunting only the deer are in danger. Well, skeeters are fair game too, but that's different.

I give a deer a year to the guy that farms my ground, and sometimes one to the neighbors. The rest we consume.

I only kill what I can eat.

I went on a charity goose hunt last year, the only time I've ever put money down for a hunt, and it was only because it was going to kids

One of the guys walked down to the farmer's field and popped off at some pigeons. Afterwards, he threw them on top of the guides truck so he could take them home. It was rumored that the guide was not exactly a rich man, and appreciated anything he could get to feed his family.

He just happened to take the same highway home that I did and I got to have the pleasure of dodging pigeons as they flew off his roof, over his trailer and onto the road behind him. That still puts a sour feeling in my stomach when I think about it.

My family normally shoots 5 or 6 deer a year. We keep 2 for ourselves to eat and give the rest to people that want and need them that my dad knows.

Sharing what you kill is honorable ... and it benefits public perception of our sport ... I give away alot of jerky to friends and family and they appreciate it and look forward to the killing season ;)

We eat the deer we kill. Heck one year at the bachelor pad, we killed 5 deer between the three of us and they were gone by the end of January or something like that. I won't kill a Turkey unless I know someone will eat it. I'm just not that fond of eating it.

When I killed more deer I gave some to relatives and the HFH programs. Lately I eat what I kill.

Now for the bowfishing kills. (carp, buffalo, gar, bigheads, silvers) Most of that gets buried or feeds the critters in the ditch behind my house.

We eat the deer we kill and we gladly take deer that are given to us. I love deer meat.

We eat some of the squirrels (split them with them with the dog). Most all of the rabbits we shoot in the garden go to the dog. (I hardly ever buy dog food)

We eat some of the gar, buffalo, bighead carp that we shoot. Some go to the chickens and dog too. But we shoot hundreds of pounds of them so most end up in the garden. Eaten later in the form of tomatoes, corn and squash. :)

The starlings we shoot get tilled into the field too. My dog, who will happily eat a chicken turd or a half rotted carp.... will not touch a starling. They must taste really, really bad.....

I only kill what I am going to eat, with one exception, and that's ground squirrels, they get shot because they destroy our fields, we dont eat them. I can't kill enough critters anymore to give much meat away, between my growing boys my wife and I we can easily eat 1 elk and two whitetails a year. We are to the point now were we need 2 elk and 2 whitetails. Thats the goal for this coming season. We are almost out of elk meat and its only June! I refuse to buy beef. :)
