to amplify my earlier post. I bow hunt during gun season and hog hunt in the summer in Florida and carry a backup then...lately being a 10mm glock. hunting camping alone most of the year it just makes sent to be able to take care of ones self if 2 and four legged critters....and here in florida, no-legged creatures, are a threat. Expect I'll go all my life and never need it but then that's the same for fire insurance, flood insurance, and everything else one has but never wants to have to use.
you might check to see if you can own a blackpowder revolver. would not be as handy as a glock but a 44 blackpowder revolver, especially the Walker, would be pretty formidable if something was needed. I don't know its true but heard one famous felon from the 1970's carries a small black powder revolver for protection because he couldn't own a regular firearm.
Plan on carrying one this bow season since Missouri started allowing it last year , if you have your CCW . Already carry one during the rest of the seasons . I rifle hunt with a Ruger 44 and now that Missouri allows center fire pistols during muzzleloader season , I muzzleloader hunt with it also
I'm a Deputy Sheriff so I always carry no matter if I'm hunting or not. It's legal in Ky to carry while hunting.
I hope. I got worried about breaking the law so I email FWC to make sure I was in the clear. Don't need any tickets. Sucks that your area isn't private so you could too. Too many snakes and hog around.
I personally never leave home with out my 1911. It's not allowed here in NY to carry in bow. Which personally I think is not a smart decision by DEC. The guys who hunt by law and ethics will not use it besides protection. The guys who break the laws and have no ethics will do what ever they please anyway so who's really on the downside of this law.
If I'm by myself I do, mainly because of the number of yotes where I hunt. Blessings..........Pastorjim Sent from my KFOT using Tapatalk
I will be this year. Pretty high population of grizzlies in AK and MT where I'll be hunting.... I'll leave it on the pack for WY rattlesnakes too for good measure. I don't carry to the deer stand in KY though. Hunt private land and park within 200 yards of the stand usually.... just not much of a need IMO.
