Meridian Passing is the overhead passing. I like the one you reference better. I use that one but didn't realize it had the overhead and underfoot time as well.
I never rely on any one thing but this is definitely something I pay attention too. I definitely see more deer at these times especially in conjunction with favorable weather.
I thought I read a study that these people did over the course of several years and they said the moon has little to nothing to do with deer movement. Will try to find it...
Both of my bucks from the last 2 years were shot at midday on a full moon. Full moon pre-rut over scrapes in my favorite way to hunt!
Completely agree. Overhead and underfoot is the only thing moon related I've seen affect deer. It will get mature bucks on their feet a little earlier and keep them on their feet a little later, if you're not hunting near bedding you may never notice. Any study with moon type, full, new, etc. I see no change in movement. I see plenty of bucks in all moon types. I also see no correlation with these rut dates determined by the moon, breeding happens the same time each year, just that weather can suppress or encourage movement.
Great info. I didn't know that it played that much of a factor. I guess I will see for myself this year
Steve Bartylla has said it best. No single thing is the answer to killing. The goal is to stack as many things in your favor as you can to increase your odds.
Much like those that feel that hunting pressure causes deer to go nocturnal, trail cam pics have shown the tendency for bucks to change their travel patterns after the velvet has been shed. People are always trying to find that magic thing that makes bucks behavior and travels predictable.
When its a full moon I hunt the middle of the day.. Have several that were taken between 12 and 2 pm.. Is this because of the moon.. no idea.. I do know my they seem to move more during the dark moon in the mornings in my areas
Yes deer will move better in middle of the day in a full moon phase..... I have this moon guide. Its all about moon position not phase. If the moon is directly overhead is best and directly underneath is second best if it lands in the first couple hours of morning or last couple hours of light it is best. It also tells you where to hunt based upon the moon. I will say though good weather conditions and a high barometer affects deer movement more than the moon.
Personally I would not plan on it doing much mid day early season. At least what I've seen. Don't get me wrong, it could help but I'm not sitting all fricking day early season based on just the moon.
Listen to the recent Wired to Hunt podcast with Mark Drury. Overall it was excellent and there is a good section where he gives his thoughts on the moon: http://wiredtohunt.com/2015/07/08/how-mark-drury-uses-the-moon-to-predict-deer-movement/
I believe the moon affects deer, how it affects them I don't know but I believe it does. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have two theories about this one is you don't know when that mature buck is gonna move so don't worry about it go out and hunt enjoy yourself and if he just so happens to walk out that's just a bonus my second theory is that no moon means awesome mornings and evenings if your going off the moon my personal succession rate is equal in morning and evening time with no moon with a full moon mid day hunts 10am-2pm I've only killed a few deer at this time and I believe it was just luck of the draw over all I'm just a weekend warrior except around the holidays and this is what I've noticed over the past 10+ years
