To be fair, that was a trick question. I am not a sign seeker, and really don't want to know if your faith is strong enough to move mountains. Only you and God can know that. Consider this. From the tenor of the conversation, and any who don't agree with me my apologies in advance, most here do not have that faith. Chief started this thread with the doubt itself. Attempting to get back to the topic, do you think God interferes on a regular basis in such a manner he describes?

This is actually pretty good though James may have said it best... where do fights and quarrels come from? From your own lusts and desires. I will say expecting to learn God's will apart from His word seems futile to me. It's like turning the volume off the television and then complaining that you can't hear.

Where is it vague, concerning His will? His will is revealed in His Word.

(Actually I think looking for answers from God without searching His Word is what we are cautioned against)

( Gnostics were people who refused to accept God's Word, thinking they had a supernatural ability to interpret God's will through some self perceived communication with God, not available to others. Though not necessarily considered Gnostics, as they (Gnostics) did not rise to much acclaim until near the end of Paul's ministry... the Sanhedrin wrote their own addendum to the Mosaic laws called the Talmud. These were the traditions they often accused Christ's disciples of not following.

This gets back to the idea of man using his personal life as a context to interpret scripture. Or worse, using another man's because then we relegate responsibility to another (as in 'we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling'). Fantasy literature has a common theme regarding prophecy, that is prophecy is obscure by definition so those without understanding will not be able to interpret it. Scripture is similar, the Word of God in the Bible is vague. That is clearly in evidence by the 1000s and 1000s of Christian Cults (as classically defined) in abundance. I think we can all read the Scripture, but the Scripture is NOT to be used to prove itself. The Bible councils us to go to God, who will lead us in the correct thinking. Otherwise we are as the Lawyer, a one-man flock with a fool for a priest (that being we teach ourselves). I am not going to answer specific vagueness and errors inherent in the Bible because that is evil. Any google search can find these, and the evidence of the consequences of using the Bible to explain the Bible is so self-evident as to be ridiculous to challenge.
Let us assume the Bible to be the Word of God. In light of the countless interpretations finding the true interpretaion of God's will from amounst these discordant voices would lead to one of these conclusions:
1) None are the true Will of God because God's will is not reflected in current Christian doctrine, all the sects are wrong.
2) Some or one is the true Will of God, being Guided by the Spirit of God to the correct interpretation of scripture.
3) All are True to some extent, the exact interpretation being not so important, but that we as his Children are left to our own devices to do the best we can. I think it safe to add the addendum to the #3 that some of these could potentially be an anathema to God.
It is safe to say there are likely permutations within these 3 that could be further broke down, but I think that as a general statement, it is true. I lean heavily to #2 with #3 as my 'out' .

This was probably not a good example. Your understanding of Gnostic's is correct, but I think a lower case gnostic in the post biblical age could be applied to many faiths. As seen in this thread, many of the common interpretations of Christian Sects is considered 'wrong', it just don't feel right. It just don't feel right that God would damn a baby, yet many Christian's have this doctrine. Where did it come from? Again, it is either the word of god (a doctrine which I reject) or it is an interpretation of God's will by men who claim to know the will of God from either private revelation or private interpretation.
This is an interesting discussion and I do appreciate your civility. Questions regarding faith can be very taxing emotionally. Some are even threatened. I do not perceive this from you.
