Heres a good question where i think i might get some different responses.. When deer hunting in your tree stand do you pee out of the tree or do you hold it? Me generally if i gotta go i will go out of the tree. Some people will say that this will scare the deer but i found myself doing this and within 45 mins to an hour i would see deer.

What do you guys do and think?

Me myself I have always been told that if you pee off the stand you won't see a deer for the rest of the day but I honestly don't think it would bother them unless you was sick and it was really strong. For what I do I take a water bottle and pee in it most of the time once it gets to bad and I can't hold it

I let it rip. Urine breaks down into ammonia and pee is pee, regardless of the animal or human it came out of. This is why most deer urine you buy in a store is bogus. You're essentially buying a bottle of ammonia. Ever smell deer urine right out of a deer and still warm? Smells nothing like the bottled stuff. ;-)

I used to think it would scare them and always had a big mouth Gatoride bottle with me :D but anymore just let it rip, I have had deer walk through it, sniff and just continue on. I dont worry about it anymore.

No. But more because of the logistical difficulty than my fear of spooking deer.

In fact, I wait until I climb back down, pack up the climber, trudge back to the truck. Change clothes, put all my stuff in the truck and then drive back into town or to the lone operational bathroom facility in the park. (depending on which side of the river I'm hunting)

The likelyhood of meeting up with someone wanting to make small talk in the parking lot for a half hour is inversely proportional to how badly I have to pee.

Most of the time I try to sip on my beverages that I bring to stand to avoid having to go. I still usually bring an empty bottle in my pack just in case.

I feel strongly that human pee alone doesn't affect deer at all. I'm always more worried about the sound of my urine hitting the ground than the actual smell.

I usually try to hold it because with my luck a big ol' buck will walk by as my bow is out of my hands and I'm taking a pee. If I really have to go I will right out of the tree. I have never had a problem with it spooking deer.

I used to think human urine spooked deer until I saw where people would pee in active scrapes and the scrape would get hit harder than ever. Now I just let it rip, I almost have to because I have this stupid mental block where the second my feet hit the ground I have to pee no matter what, it's very frustrating and I'm not even old yet. It's going to be rough!

I've peed out of the stand before and couldn't get the little guy put up in time before a nice 8 point starting making his way towards me. He came about 6 inches from my ladder looming for acorns and ate from where I peed. I've been letting it fly ever since!

I didn't last season but, from what I am reading it doesn't matter. I will probably still go in a bottle, If I have to. Normally I will not pee in the woods unless I have too and then only in a creek.

Crick's post made me laugh a bit...

I secretly (well, ok... openly) laugh my butt off at everyone who bothers with taking Gatorade bottles or the like in with them and go through so much trouble to pee in one and then lug it back out full of urine.

    Ridiculous.

here is an example for you.
I pee in a jug then spray it with scent killer.
my buddy will pee off his stand.
Now I drink coffee in the morning before I go out( maybe 3 or 4 cups)
    and so does my buddy.
He has had deer come close to his stand while he was not there and I watched them smell the area and take off running.
I think it really depends on what you drink.
If your drink beer or alchol and coffee and energy rinks and stuff like that your pee ordor while be heavier which is not a normal smell to the deer.
If you just drink water, juice etc I really dont think it would make a difference.

From my stand and in the scrapes. I had trail cams on scrapes I peed in last year and had numurous bucks visit them all season long.

Christine; You have WAY more patience than I do!!!!
Yep I pee from the stand ~ but then I am a bit of a contortionist.
After having a few kids I have a bladder like a humingbird
( ya I know to much info ), . Ya never know when its gonna be a full moon at my stand. ;)
I have had bucks come in and work licking branches and make scrapes where I urinated. Although I did have one doe come into it last year, but she was being followed by a buck so she got a free pass.

I not only pee off my stand, I see how far from the tree I can get it.

Might as well have fun while I'm at it.
