    Do I need to upgrade?

I've been shooting a 10ish years old reflex excursion for quite some time now. Fairly accurate out to 40 yards. (Hunting distance on my property is about 35 yards max.)

I have yet to miss a deer since I started archery hunting 3 years ago and harvested 5 white tails so far. All of them fell within 30 yards and I have not missed one either.

Now, its an old bow, apparently slow and noisy but do I really need to upgrade?

Who doesn't like something newer and shiny every now and then.

I do not want to spend more than 500 bucks bare bow for a newer used one.

Is it worth it to even look at nicer used bows in that price range?

What would I gain by getting something newer besides my own gratification?

    Thanks for reading!

If your hunting situation remains the same I would say you gain nothing, other than that new toy gratification you are talking about. If you had plans of hunting other properties or game then you might want to consider getting another bow, but if your having good success with what you have, why pay more to get the same results? That's my 2 cents.

Sounds like you are doing fine with what you have. If it aint broke why fix it. So its more of a want than a need situation. So the real question is do you want a new bow?

I don't have the money to get a new bow every year like some. Mine is a RTH package deal from cabelas that's 10ish years old to. Change the string and cables every few years and it's just fine.

Of course you should buy a new bow. Everybody knows that only the newest equipment will kill deer.

The only way to more success is to buy it.

It sounds like you're reluctant to get one. Theres no need for it as long as its shooting fine.
That being said, it sure would be fun to get a new one!

Fred Bear shot a lot more with less just saying.

But if you want a newer bow you can find some deals in the classifieds for around 500
Just to get an Idea at what bare bows you could get for that
2015 elite energy 35 for 400 to your door
    Pse decree
    Obsession turmoil
    2016 bear arena 30
    2015 obsession addiction

Just a couple I saw for sale at that price point over at archerytalk they seem to have more bows for sale on there classified

But like you said you kill deer with it so you don't need a new bow. Buy one only if you have extra disposable income and you "want" a newer bow

Thanks for your input guys. I have indeed been on the fence.
As much as I want a new bow, I suppose I don't need one. (Sucks to be a grown up. Lol)
I will get new cables/string for my current bow and upgrade the rest.
My whisker biscuit is really wearing out now.

Definitely dont "Need" a new bow. Its more of if you want something newer or more updated technology. The only real benefit of a newer model bow is it will probably draw smoother as technology on cams are better than what they were and it will probably have more speed/energy.

    What is your current bow?

It's a reflex excursion. Like stated in the first paragraph of my initial post ;).

Just pulled the trigger on a two year old, never fired Darton 3800 from a shop. Cost me about the same as a new rest, new strings and cables for my current bow...

The bow I bought in 1995 is still being used today, just not by me. I didn't need a new bow, I wanted one. I gave my old bow, case, release and arrows to a younger family member who was going to be trying bow hunting for the first time. He can use that bow to decide how much he likes the sport before having to spend money on a rig of his own.
