How often do you get tune ups? I had one this time last year and got a new string. Bow still shoots straight but should I still get one as a procaution from wear and tear from the season? And what do you usually expect in a tune up?

Check all the specs and make sure they are in alignment. Specs meaning brace and axel to axel measurements. If you have good strings they should last you a few years but that depends on how you store your bow too. Keep it out of the heat. Don't leave it you car on a hot summer day or leave it in a unconditioned garage.

If your groups start opening up I would definitely check it out. If not I wouldn't worry about it. You should probably replace your strings once every two years and of course a tune is in order then.

    Does that make sense?

Yeah makes sense. I got custom bow strings from a shop before last turkey season. Just didnt know if i should send it in as a procation from wear and tear from the season (dropping down on the ground from the lift cord and just usual wear and tear from deer season). But if its shoot straight and throwing nice groups your saying dont worry bout it till next year, i am planning on buying a new bow anyways then.

I check specs every month or so, but that is due to shooting 100+ arrows a night.. Then re-tune before each hunting season for specs, then tune again for 3d season. I have 1 bow that I use for both, 3D and hunting so, lots of tuning and spec checking. Just make sure all the standard specs are in-line, though using a draw board for timing as well if I need to update something for specs.

Mark everything on your bow so you can see when things come out of tune. I tune my own stuff, but if you want to shoot thru paper every few months, shoot a bareshaft or shoot some groups long range you should be able to tell.

Get it tuned going into every season.
