i was just wondering because i walked behind my house yesterday and i honestly dont think i've ever seen so many rubs in one place!!!!! do you think it would be worth it if i put out my trail cam there?? thanks in advacnce guys!
I think you would be better off with putting a camera on a scrape,Ive seen more deer make new rubs rather than freshen older ones. But if there are rubs everywhere you would probably be fine with putting a camera on the main travel path and you would probably get most of the deer moving through there.
there's a creekbottom that I scope out every day on my way into work because it looks like a place where a big buck would bed (can't hunt it, rock quarry property.). About 2 weeks ago I saw a rub on a 2-3" sapling that had been made overnight. Big rub, from about 1-3' high, with some bark shreds still hanging. This morning I could tell that sometime over the weekend he'd been back, and had totally trashed that sapling. Don't know if that's a "normal" deer behavior, but it happens. Sounds like you're on a corridor and the trail cams are at least worth a shot.
I have a tree that has been freshened about every day for the last week. It is at the edge of a field where a couple of trails meet. I think it's what they call a sign post.
in my experience i have seen a few mature bucks come back to a rub. normally on the edge of a field when ive seen them. look at the rub over the next few days if it gets revisited youll know.. you have a much better shot at getting a picture of him on scrapes on the property though because if he is residential he'll be using the scrapes in the area. you also have abetter chance at seeing him in the day light on a scrape when they hit them in the morning or evening.. goodluck!
