wasn't in the cards tonight, boys. Didn't see any bucks. I am going home empty handed but with a full heart. That was fun.
honestly, it's a great shooter too. Going to spend September getting it really tuned for fixed heads and it may be my new primary. Can't believe I got it for under $40o out the door and could have gotten it for $300 bare. As to the thrill of hunting new areas, that's exactly what I meant by having a full heart. When I was younger I read a lot of Louis L'Amour books, many of which were set in that area of the country- the Apache's home turf, Cochise and Geronimo's last stand. Was pretty cool to actually get out and prowl around in the mountains and canyons where it all happened. Oh, and I am not going home entirely without an animal either- didn't write anything about this before as I wasn't sure if I was going to adopt him, but the first weekend I was out there I rescued an abandoned puppy. He walked up on me at my car in the dark, tail wagging, starving, covered in mud and ticks. I took him back to my hotel that night, gave him a bath in the bathtub using only my iPhone flashlight light b/c the power was out, pulled as many ticks off him as I could, and then gave him to a local no kill shelter the following morning. They got him cleaned up, vaccinated, and neutered. Told them if he wasn't adopted in the interim I might be able to convince the wife, Friday she said yes and I just picked him up from the one of the shelter worker's family last night (they were fostering him.) He's a mutt and kinda runty but he's got some personality. Going to do a DNA test kit on him when I get home, but if I had to guess he's either wirehaired Vizsla or German Pointer and beagle or possibly some Jack Russell. Hoping he makes a good tracking dog. Everywhere he goes he's got his nose to the ground or up testing the air. If I had to guess he's about 5 months old, he's got almost all of his adult teeth already. He might even be a good watch dog- I found out he really does not like Orcs. Lord of the Rings was on HBO last night, he started barking at them, loud! LOL.
Good on you. Just added another member to the wolf pack. Looks like he's going to keep your hands full for a little while, you can see the wild in his eyes. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
This is my wife's take on "the wild in his eyes" When she asked me to send her a pic, that's what she sent back to me. I was dying laughing and now I can't unsee it every time I look at him
After that pic, I suggested Steve but she shot that down due to the 3 Steves we both know that are all lazy d-bags.
I had thought wirehaired dachshund originally, then his head size made me think a more standard size GWP or Viszla, but more I am around and look at him I'm thinking maybe beagle and dachshund. Guess I'll know in a month or so when the DNA results come in. He'll never be a 'big dog' but I was at least hoping for a medium. Oh well, a higher power picked me to be at the time and place who am I to kvetch? I can tell you he's a decent watch dog, he may not physically protect anyone but he's on high ready all the time. He alerted at a lady on the other side of a truck in the parking lot this AM, he saw her feet under the frame before I ever could have, froze then growled and barked.
