Nice BHOD segment today, Neal McCullough. Seriously though, Fitz- that Bubba is a monster. Hope you stick him! ....in other news, I'm at deer camp in WI, I just had a whiskey, tomorrow is officially Fall, and it's going to be 39 at dawn. Life is good. Only bad thing is it's clear and nearly full moon but I'll take it! Good luck, teammates!
Congrats on the doe. It’s been very slow here in the early special regs season. High temps other than today for the entire start to the season. Archery season for the entire state of PA opens Saturday morn and I’ll be hunting the morn and eve. Hoping for the best. Good luck to all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
and we're on the board! Nicely done. I passed on a doe Saturday AM. Didn't want to spend the whole rest of the weekend on her. Ended up only seeing one other deer (another doe) too far to shoot. Such is hunting,
OK, it's official. I'll be back at it Oct 12-15 on public land in mid-Michigan. I've seen a couple 150+ on the hoof in this area and in 2008 my old man killed a 187" on opening day of rifle. They are there....just gotta get deep and get lucky. Going to bring my kayak for the first time. Not happy about the timing (October lull) but it's the first weekend I'll be free until then. I'll take a doe there as long as I'm not too deep in the swamp- I get 1 doe tag, one un-restricted, and one restricted (4+ on one side.)
I mentioned in the "live from the stand" thread over the weekend that I bumped about 20 deer on the way in Saturday AM, including one tall 7-8 point that walked right toward my headlamp to within 15-20 yards while I was taking a breather at the top of the ridge. I am pretty sure I know which one he was from our cams and would not have shot him anyway; but it still sucked. I had to throw a rock beyond him when he turned to look the other way to run him off. He never had any idea what I was; he was just walking toward the very bright light all blinded. I was out of the camper very early but the deer were just starting to bed; I am guessing it was because of the mostly full moon that had just set. I am a big believer in moon phases outside of the rut; but every year I have to get reminded that my enthusiasm is best put on the back burner when the moon is 3/4 or more. It's better to sneak in/still hunt to your stand after daybreak than jump a bunch of bedded deer in the dark. Side bar; I am giving up on the Black Hornet broadheads for now. I still cannot get them to tune. They shoot high/right with 3 different bows. I had Trophy Taker Shuttle Ts doing the same thing to me a few years back. Everything else shoots to point of aim, more or less. So I don't know what I am going to do- stick the the Muzzy HBs for now; I guess. I really really like them and they destroyed a buck for me 2 seasons ago but I would also like to stick a Trophy Taker A-tac through a big buck though. Decisions decisions. Rambling tonight- if you guys get a chance, check out The Hunting Public channel on YouTube. Well done series; lots of good tactics, and they seem like decent dudes. Episode 9 this season is pretty epic.
Ha! That's what happens when you never shoot anything. They forget who you are Bait stations have been full of birds, foxes, a raccoon, pine marten, wolves, my dad's golden retriever, but no bears. Last two nights, bears tore down my bird feeders.... .... bastard.
congrats on the doe. Probably wont get to hunt tell the 3rd of October but we got a few good ones we are trying to get a pattern on. Best of luck to all of you hopefully we get some good ones on the ground .
I start a new job on the first so hopefully it will give me more time to hunt on weekends and maybe some evenings. I went and checked two camera and all I got was a few does and one small buck. They are starting to harvest around here so that will get the deer moving. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
