Alright, what's all the hype about with these cams Pat and Tom? Lets here the goods on them! Reason I ask Is my brother bought 3 Covert II cams 2 years ago and he don't care for them In the least. Yes they took great pics of stuff but he's had many Issues of blank pics, battery's failing way too early which result In millions of pics, and he hates that remote.

I told him I know of a guy here on the hunting forum that lives and breaths these Coverts (Yes you Pat). ;) He wants an IR cam, no exceptions. Sell him on another Covert.

I only have one, the edge, but it has been fantastic in the few months I have had it. No battery issues, the ones in there, last I looked still said 100%. I have had blank pics (not many) but I think that was caused by a small animal, squirrel/raccoon, being close enough to trip the motion sensor but below the level where it would be in the picture. The reason I suspect this is because prior or after the blank pic I usually have a pic of the small critter. Not every time, but most times.

Any camera I get in the future will be this brand.

Steve I have said many times on here that these are my favorite cameras. I do not get anything from them for pushing their product. I even buy the 2 I give away on my harvest photo and trail camera contests. I have been asked to sell a number of different brands but DLC Covert is the only one I will sell. I have to believe in something if I am going to sell it. I have used most brands on the market and have not been happy with most. I will admit I have never bought or used a Reconyx, I have heard they are a great camera, but when you run almost 20 I have a hard time paying that much. Like all cameras there will be an occasional problem or bad pic but that is where DLC Covert really shows how great a company they are, the customer service is awesome. If you have a problem they dont tell you to send them the camera and a check for a new one. Now if your camera is a couple years old they cant just give you a new one, no company could do that. But for the $, you can get a MP 6 IR camera for under $150 that takes great pics and the battery life is incredible. Steve it is important for me to get as many really good pics that I can to post on forums like this, to put on my Facebook page and website and to play in my loop during shows and the only camera I trust to give me all of that and not completely crush my wallet is DLC Covert. I hope this helps :)

Steve I will be honest I dont really care for the remote either. The MP 6, Red 40, Black 60 do not have remotes and they are all IR cameras. The Reveal which is a flash camera does run off of a remote but it seems alot better than the remotes for the Assassin II's.

Hey Steve ! Thanks for the post. Looks like the guys covered it pretty well. I also am not a fan of the remote But this years model with the remote is way ahead of the Covert II . I hope we do away with that in the near future but am not sure we can and still keep some cameras in that price range. Like Tom said this years cameras have been really impressive. The MP6 is a great camera for the $. If you have a little larger budget the Red 40 takes postcard quality pictures. If your worried about spooking game or need a camera for security the Black 60 is the way to go. The battery life is incredible on these cameras also. The only knock I can give them is they are pretty sensitive so I suggest in the summer months setting the sensitivity on low and clearing the area in front of the camera best you can. I still get some false triggers but just deal with it as in my opinion it's better than missing critters.

I bought a covert mp6 about a month ago from my pro shop for $125. I liked it well enough to buy a second last week. I had about 500 pics on the first came check (alot of grasses and branches moving) and only had a couple pictures that didn't turn out well, but I was able to fix them with a photo product I have on my pc.

I bought the MP6 cams in "Lost" camo. I was really impressed with how easily these cams disappeared and blended in. I didn't even buy steel cases for these. Hopefully I don't regret that.

My take on the remote is you only use it to set up initially, sometimes I use it to aim. But usually simply hang and turn it on. I have been very pleased.with mine...especially the battery life. I have the reveal.

My honest and limited review of a Covert.

I bought the cheapest (I think it was the cheapest) Covert last fall. [Covert Reveal]

For an inexpensive camera it took really good pictures. I did have to set it up to look down trails rather than perpendicular to trails Once I did that, I got very few critterless photos. (can't use bait and our deer are speed walkers). By late January the camera started to mess up. It will still take pictures but it seemed to reset itself on programming and I could no longer program it with the remote. (example, it picks it's own programming like day-time only or 1 min between pictures)

Tom was great and sent me a different remote because we thought that might be the problem. It wasn't, there's some other issue with it and I haven't bothered to send it in for fixing. Mostly because I am a human EMP. Some people are magnetic.... I am a destructive electro-magnetic pulse. I kill just about anything electronic just by being in the same room for any period of time. Seriously, I kill batteries just by being around them. Freezers, microwaves, cameras.... you name it, they die untimely deaths around me. So... that I got one season out of the camera doesn't surprise me.
I bought a stealthcam this spring and haven't tried it yet.. but from what I've read, I'm really not expecting much out it. :( I may get a lot more photos out of the now-hinkey covert than the new stealth.

I bought a Black 60 a month or so ago, love it, just put my 2nd Black 60 out yesterday. I love the fact that it is Password protected, the housing can be locked and the Python lock that locks it to the tree, great investment in me eyes!

I bought my black 60 for 199.00 and my red40 for 150.00 to my door, both online going to change out the sd cards in the morning here so i will post some pics then, my other coverts are the 3.0 with the remote and actually i like the remote on this small cam. The new 60 and the red40 has password protection and hole for python lock.12 AA batterys so they should hold up a while in the field.
I will say i have 17 cams and i have yet to see a cam that did not get some white outs during transition times and lots of extra pics during this time of year with the sun moving across the woods overhead heating up the leaves. You have to work with the sensitivity settings to find a happy place for each setup,I would rather look thru a few extra hundred pics with nothing in them then miss the deer i should have seen.

Also in may-june i set up double cams on four mineral sites putting my different models against the other in hope of getting different views of the same deer, and in hope of catching a thief in the act. But what i really found out was some of my old cams just dont stack up and missed tons of deer that the other cams had pics of.

chasingame has reviews on all three of the new cams check them out.

I'm all about magazine quality type pics. Thus the reason I have so many homebrews. I will say that Covert is in my top three for pic quality from commercial cams. That applies only to their daytime photos. The night photos from the white-flash pics I have seen are a bit grainy. If I were going to buy a commercial cam, the Covert would be one of my top picks.

    Blessings........Pastorjim

Agree on most cams doing that. I'm quite spoiled I guess with my Reconyx cams as they don't give me hardly any blank pics and never a white out. None the less these Coverts sound like a good cam. Like I said I'm not looking for a cam, my brother Is. He won't go the Reconyx route because of the price. I don't blame him or anyone for that matter on not wanting to spend that kind of cash.

Thanks again for the reply's all.

I just bought a Reveal. Put it up for about a week and a half. Checked it the other days with a few pictures on it. Only had 1 night time picture with the white flash. That's the whole reason I bought the camera. I was tired of the blurry pictures of deer moving at night. Like someone else stated, in IL we can't put out a mineral lick or anything so it's hard to get the deer to stop moving in front of the camera.

I like the camera so far. I really like the size and the battery life. I have 4 othe Scoutguards which are basically identical as far as setup, design, and the controller, so it was no problem to set up the camera when I got it.

I got the Covert CA4.0 several weeks ago. It took me a couple of evenings to figure out the remote (I am not that tech savvy though). I think MBhunt is right, although you can use the remote to program and/or scroll through pics etc on sight, I think it's mainly used for the initial programming or set up. At least that's the way I envision using it. I realize that this unit is one of the lower priced cams, so I'm not complaining, but since you asked Pat here are a few observations I've made; The access panel and battery panel on the bottom seem a bit flimsy. The two doors may hold up just fine, but they just seem kind of wimpy to me. Also the SD card is so close to the side of the shell, that I can't grip it with my fingers to pull it out of the slot. I've used small needle nose pliers to grab it. It's even more difficult to remove if the camera is already mounted up against a tree. I'm satisfied with the photo quality; however I've only tested in my yard and have not been able to place in the field yet unfortunately. I thought the daylight distance was phenomenal! The mounting strap is a little cumbersome and I think bungees might be better to use in place of the strap (for me). I really like how it vanishes on the tree once up. It looks like a knot on a trunk. I also like the low glow IR. I like the lock cable option, but I think one could snatch it without too much effort. I like the option of locking the bottom door too, but again it wouldn’t take much effort to get in, all you’d have to do is grab the lock and twist by hand. Almost nothing is theft or vandal proof, so I can’t knock it for those two design options though. Again, this is not the more expensive unit, but it would be nice to have the temperature and moon phase. Wish it had a 12 hour clock too, but that’s not a big deal. One question that I have is when you change out the batts; does it lose memory and need re-programming? I am not a trail cam pro at all, so if anyone has this cam and any tips or advice for me I would like to know. Thanks!

I just got one in and will be putting it through the paces. Nice functionality. It won't beat by HC600, but for the price, they shouldn't.

    I got the black 60.

Also, the camera is manufactured in the same plant as other cameras. Fwiw. I hope to love it! :)

I bought the DLC Covert MP6 (Lost Camo) a few weeks ago. I put it in place of my Cuddeback Capture where I get the most deer activity. In 7 days, I had 1046 pics and all of them were identifiable. Not one blurred or Blacked Out pic. I posted a few of the daytime and nighttime pics here on under "Cam Check this morning" on 7/25. Pat has a couple on the DLC Covert Page on Facebook. For the money, you can't find a better trailcam with this many features. I have mine set to 5MP, take a pic every 30 secs and once an hour even if the sensor is not tripped. This is my first DLC and I will be buying at least 3 more in the next month. One word sums them up AWESOME!!
