Anybody using these things? http://www.covertscoutingcamera.com/ What I like about 'em is their weight and size. I have a spot that's about 7 miles in, and 5000' in elevation gain, on federal Wilderness, and although the hike is just spectacular, it'd be even more so with less weight on my back. I use a Moultrie with a small auto 'jump box' so I can leave the camera up for months without going in and 'infecting' the sight every coupla weeks.

A buddy of mine who has one of these says he's had it set on hi-qual video and the batteries (uses 8 AA) are only down 1/4 after 4 months... Is this for real?

TEmbry can tell you all about these little gems. I call them gems because they are JUST that. Small, great battery life, and pretty solid pictures out of one compact unit. I was able to see the camera in person and talk to the owner, Dave Skinner personally. Really nice guy with a pretty clever product.

Dave works for them but Joey owns DLC.

I agree, I love these cams. Can't wait to take them to Alabama in a few weeks and try to get some pics/video of some hogs. Just wish I had some actual coin to spare on a set for myself...for now, I borrow them off a friend. LOL

About battery life. Everyone knows cold weather drains batteries more than summer months. I was recently out crow hunting with Dave about mid february, and happened upon a camera that he forgot he had set, back on THANKSGIVING. Give or take 2.5-3 months in some pretty low temps. He figured it would likely be dead, but amazingly it was taking pics right up until it got my ugly mug unstrapping it from the tree. I would expect a few thousand photos out of them on a set of AA's without much problem.

check out their new website he recently put up, dlccovert.com

Which cam does everyone like; the sg550 or the covert II? Is this company the same as HCO sg550 or completely different? Any insight would be appreciated!

DLC Covert is an entirely separate company from HCO. DLC currently offers a Covert I (essentially the EXACT same cam as an HCO SG550) and a Covert II which has been revamped and tweaked to offer a few bonuses. I think HCO came out with another camera for this year as well, but the only difference (I THINK) is the remote has a picture viewfinder built into it now, with the same camera unit.

So they are different companies, DLC and HCO, but they each had the same unit as their first camera offered...expect different roads to be traveled down from here on out.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if DLC had some more plans in the works for another camera model. :d

If you are asking for opinions between the Covert I vs the Scoutgaurd550...well they are the exact same unit. If the Covert II can be thrown into the mix, I think it offers much better night time pics and a few other perks, but comes with a cost of $50 more. My favorite of the 3 is the Covert II.

Thanks TEmbry! I had ordered the HCO sg550v prior to seeing or hearing about the DLC covert line. I saw the HCO model at the sportsman show in harrisburg, pa at the treehopper both and thought they were the shiznit! That covert II looks pretty cool as well.....sure i'll be getting another cam before before the end of summer. I'll have to give it a hard look. Keep us posted after your Alabama trip with them.......thanks

I have found them on a couple of sites where they knock $100 off if you buy 2 Covert II?

Is $490 for two of these a fair price?

2 Camera Package includes 1 remote, 1 usb connector, 1 AV connector and 2 straps.
