So I am planning on painting my .17 hmr it will be my first attempt at something like this. I am not really sure what kind of pattern I will use yet but it will come to me. Anyway its a green laminent stock with a thick steel (I think) varmit barrel. My first question is should I use I very fine sand paper on the stock so the paint sticks better? And with the barrel should I use light steel wool for the same reason? From what I've read online krylon ultra flat looks to like a good paint to use? Then comes the question of how many layers of paint / clear coat or no clear coat. Anyway I am just looking for any advice you guys with experience cod give? Pictures of your projects would be cool to! Thanks!
I painted my single shot .223 a couple years ago. I used some heavy duty degreaser/cleaner, then sanded the entire thing down with some fine sandpaper. I used the Krylon rattle cans, tan and brown in the flat finish. I probably put 4 coats on, keeping them light so I didn't get any runs. After that dried, I applied 2 light coats of clear coat. I will try and find the picture I posted on here last year of it when I shot two coyotes.
I have a 17hmr that I wanted to paint also. Mines a black synthetic stock with a regular non-bull barrel. Im not loking to paint the barrel and action, just the stock. I want to see how yours turns out so then I know where to go from there.
Got one side of the stock left to paint then a whole can of clear coat but her she is Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
