As all of you know I have an older PSE Deer hunter. Its not like any other I have seen though. It has big cams on it, a different cable set than the newer ones and 70lb limbs instead of 60 or 65lb. It was shooting 265fps through the chrono before I turned it up, replaced the string, took off the brass knock points and changed out the old rest and put on a NAP Apache rest and 8" stabilizer since the last time. It is a bit loud and I cannot for the life of me keep string silencers on it. I have looked for a string suppressor/stop for it but, I am also the type that loves to engineer and build things like this on my own. So here is what I am thinking about doing. I want to use a block of aluminum and machine it (I have access to a milling machine and Bridgeport and know how to use them) so that it slips over the Z-bar and is held in place with a set screw. Then for the stop itself use a solid aluminum rod once again slipping into the block and held in place with a set screw. Then attach a bowjax string stop to the end of it and also use a bowjax silencer to the aluminum rod. What I am concerned about is the sudden force of the string striking the string stop and causing damage to the Z-Bar. What do you guys think about this idea? Oh and I will be replacing this bow with a Rampage XT come tax time next year and just kind of want to do this as one of those DIY project but, I this bow has to last me through the season and tons of practice until then.
Not sure what you mean by Z-bar? The Cable rod? If so, I would not try it. Bowtech tried to do a stopper near the nocking point and failed, miserably. Those things were torture to tune. Is your bow tapped behind the stabilizer? If so, try this. Get one of these. http://www.keystonecountrystore.com...nt_Threaded_Cable_Guard/Page_1/CGS127402.html Then, one of these. http://prostring.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=23 Cut rod to length, install stopper, and serve your string. $20 string stop.
No, its not tapped on the backside of the riser for any accessories. The Z-Bar is what LAS catalog has the part listed as. Cable slide bar is what it reall is. The hole for this bar is on the backside of the riser in line with the satbilizer hole. Here is what I was thinking about doing.
That should work perfectly! Sorry for my ignorance. I was assuming your cable rod was in the traditional location. Let us know how it turns out.
