I wouldn't doubt that for off the counter states. There's Boone and crockets harvested all over the midwest from off the counter states every year . I wouldn't look down on them and not consider off the counter a bad state to hunt.

A theoretical scenario: the zone you want to hunt requires 4 points, so you acquire those points in 4 years -but for whatever reason, you can't make the trip(s) that season. Can you "sit on" those points for a while? And if so, for how long?

OVER the counter. Like OVER the rainbow. Which is where you might be from if you think any Midwest state matches Iowa for trophy bucks per non resident license sold.

Is that all you got. Tell me this Is 99% Iowa the only state thats only registered in the p&y and b&c. Ive seen the same amount or more big bucks certified from the overlooked midwest states than Iowa in every p&y issue taken the same year. Don't get me wrong Iowa has big bucks too. I'm sure you see more big deer there. But never underestimate the overlooked off the counter big buck states.

I am sorry. I don't actually think you were this slow on the up take. And with that in mind there isn't any point in arguing the point with you.

For everyone else there is some perspective to be gained by knowing that last year Iowa award 5968 nonresident tags ( buck tags for all intents and purposes). Here is a link that will help you understand the Iowa draw and your odds based on the number of points you enter the draw with.

^^^ this^^^ doesn't take a genius to figure out limited non resident tags along with a gun season that doesn't align with the rut to help increase the population of mature bucks.

If I live in Iowa Id hunt iowa. But if I'm waiting for 4 years to draw a tag. I'd rather take my time hunting my home and hunt the cheaper state tags. In that 4 years of waiting for a tag. I'd actually have more chances tagging a couple good bucks in that range vs me getting one good buck in Iowa. Watching the guys from antler geeks hunt in Iowa. It's as much big deer as what I'm seeing at my home. If I go there, What if Iowa isn't like what you said. You folks talk like you pass up on tons of p&y class bucks in a week. What if it's just alot of baskets, does, and a few decent size bucks there in a week. What if there's nothing there. I'm not talking about those bragging big bucks that comes 250yds from the feed on your lease and land. I'm talking DIYs

What keeps you from hunting as many states as you want while waiting for the 4 points? Just because you apply for points in Iowa doesn't mean you have to sit at home on the couch during your own bow season. Or buying an OVER the counter tag somewhere else. This makes absolutely no sense.

If you hunted Iowa, you would be a very poor hunter to not pass up several P&Y bucks in an average rut week. But, you would have to actually hunt Iowa and know what you are doing to understand that its really that good. There is a valid reason that guys wait for 4 years to experience it. Those that get it, are happy to wait.

I understand your point and I respect it. There are several reasons why I'm choosing Iowa for an out of state hunt. One it's not too far of a drive for me. Over the next three years I'll be able to research and scout down there. Also Iowa does have a reputation for big deer. That intrigues me. Right now I'm not willing to wait for 3-4 years. Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate your insight! :tu:

Iowa ruined bowhunting for one of my bow mentors. He goes every year, even for just a gun hunt. Hes self employed, etc. it is all it is cracked up to be apparently.

Iowa tags are 550$ if your lucky to draw one. I'd rather spent that money for my taxidermy bills for a shoulder mount

And there is nothing wrong with that. I'll admit, it's super expensive.

Then you already have a great place to hunt and don't need to hunt Iowa. Got it.
