So im a 22 year old mississppi college kid that wants to travel somewhere to hunt this year for about a week or so. Ive only hunted whitetails in MS and AR and want to do something different than family land and public land that ive hunted my whole life. Ive been bow hunting since i was 14 so i got a little experience. Whats yall opinions on some good places to go for a group of college kids to go and have a good time and hopefully get a chance to kill a decent buck. I know outfitters offer DIY hunts. Is that a good option? got any outfitters that yall reccomend? public land places? anything and everything is helpful. The states we were thinking of were Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Iows, somewhere in the midwest since none of us have ever been there. Open to all opinions.

good bucks in all those places... but not much public land that's not full to capacity with other hunters...outfitters offer chance to hunt private lands... but they cost... I'd look at non resident license costs and availability and make your choice of state, then go from there...

FYI.. lots more public land available to hunt out west (not California) with the chance to maybe hunt Elk as well... plus ya get to experience a state that's not flat

Im in college and Im planning on going to elk or muley hunt for my graduation present to myself next year. Iowa's fun if you can get a tag, lots of public land but also the most expensive i think

I can help you on the elk hunt! I'm going back to Colorado next fall and we could possibly car pool.

Kansas has some good walk in properties in their WIHA program. Draw deadline has passed for 2015 seasons, but I recommend looking there for 2016.
