    Bowstring...

I have spent hours researching on the topic and the more I learn the more confusion sets in.

I would prefer to make my own string however, it costs $60-100 per roll of 452x here (Australian) so by the time I get the gear I need I could buy a new string or 3 for less.

A member of my archery club has made his own string using braided fishing line. This interested me because its a whole lot cheaper but I have my reservations as to it's reliability and strength. I'm wondering what the breaking strain of a single strand of bowstring is. If you can buy 50lb or even 65lb braid would it be strong enough?

I'd like some opinions on this as it is something I'm interested in trying.

What kind of bow? I could see that working on a recurve or longbow but not a modern compound or at least I wouldn't chance it, new limbs plus a new string is gonna be way more expensive that just buying a manufactured string.
