Yeah that was a catch. They have to take a look at that rule and get this fixed. Reports are coming out now that Manning has played the last month with a torn quad. I think you could tell it, there was something that wasn't right
No. I think that is just him falling to the ground. If megatron's catch wasn't a catch this sure isn't a catch by rule.
Not sure what posting the video really does. Everyone already knows what happened. How many steps do you need to take or "football moves" do you need to perform before it's caught? Ever see a receiver dive for the pylon, the ball hit the ground and come lose? It's still a catch. What if he actually broke the plane of the goal line? Is it a touchdown? Essentially the play is over once the ball crosses. I get the rule and still say it wasn't correct by the way it's written. Once he established control, got 3 steps in and made an effort to advance the ball, it's a catch.
It's a catch in Pee Wee football, high school football and college football. Just not the NFL. Hmmmmm.....
Skywalker, I agree with you 100%. By the rulebook (whether it's a good rule or a terrible is debatable), the call was correct. ... on the other hand however, I think there is enough grey area and interpretation left to the refs that had they ruled it complete it might also have been considered the correct call. Football has almost as many rules as nascar now...
For the record I completely agree with this. It's not so much about sour grapes for me. I think Rodgers needing only a field goal to win would've marched down the field against the Dallas defense and end up winning the game. It's just the call was absurd. Even if the Cowboys squeaked a win out they would've got eliminated the following week in Seattle. No way they (or maybe anyone) is going up there and beating that team at home the way they are rolling. So that is a mute point. Just a terrible call and a shame the focal point of the playoffs is the refs and not the players.
Why? He had clear possession of the ball, three steps and turned his body in the direction of the goal line. His thigh contacted the ground before the ball. If he was a runner, it would have been ruled down by contact. What could he have possibly done more to demonstrate this elusive "football move"?
That's what I'm wondering. "The rule" doesn't even pertain as soon as he did what he did with the ball in his possession.
Pretty simple He didn't complete the catch. He "catches" the ball in the air, comes down, takes 2 quick steps caused my momentum, starts falling over the defender, hits the ground and the ball comes out. His slight "lunge" that everyone is freaking about was hardly a clear "football move". If he was fully extended, sure, but he wasn't. His elbow never extended. He moved his shoulder forward. He could have just been trying to brace himself for all you know. I'v watched it probably 100 times today and I still can't see how anyone thinks it was a catch. Even if the "lunge" was a football move, shouldn't he have to retain possession through the football move?
Hahaha that's all the Packers fans need for comfort... so you routing for Brady or the Packers if they meet in the Superbowl?? Would that put a wrinkle your universe? lol
Catch or no catch or half catch, the NFL needs to seriously evaluate some of these rules. The game is just getting difficult to watch. It's now the focal point of games. It should almost be invisible. I started laughing at one play where Clay Mathews was in mid air and Romo let the pass go. He pulled his arms and head back with his feet off the ground and ended up giving him a little chest bump lmao. Then immediately started looking to see if he was flagged. Unreal.
it will be almost impossible to remove all subjectivity from every catch sometimes its just that close this just happens to be one of those cases...for some people, I guess I didn't think it was close
I saw one replay and was confident it was going to be overturned. And I am objective when it comes to my opinion. It wasn't close for me either.
Which means unless Gase is named head coach, Manning will have to learn a whole new offense. Wonder if this affects the decision to return next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
