And this must be coming from your practical experience in theater?

My last deployment was to east Baghdad and we primarily fought Sadr's Mahdi militia, they were Shiites and Sunni based groups such as Al Qaeda and ISIS are their enemies. It seems odd to me that when I see the news now I hope to see some report that the militia we fought so hard in 2008 will be the ones to stand up to ISIS and shut down their takeover of Iraq. I am interested in how this all works out over there since I spent a good portion of my twenties there, but nowadays I'm a lot more interested in raising my kids than going to Iraq to help out.

While it does bother me I am a huge fan of worry this country 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and everything else fourth. Its honestly none of our business. The minute it crosses into our business we should beat that country into the ground until that moment who cares.

I could go on and on but I wont... I will say, though, that I have walked the mile in these shoes....I would walk the mile again and again and again...I will walk the mile until I am confident that my sons dont have to. Im not ignorant to the FACT that my actions arent going to prevent my sons from having to perform the same duties that I am right now because of the volatility and global implications. I do what I do because I can...OR...I could watch it all unfold on the news...my choice is to take action...but I would never condemn the choice to not take action. Unfortunate reality is...at some point, believe it or not, the choice wont be ours to make.....this will be at our doorstep in our lifetime...if not ours, our children's...they will see these atrocities first hand. Maybe I AM just a dumb jarhead with no real capability of forming a full thought, let alone a complete sentence, but for the last 17 years I have been walking that mile and it isn't a leisurely stroll...

and just to maintain the fidelity of the point...I am not a cook, baker, or candlestick maker...I spent those 17 years in the infantry. I say that not out of pride, but to provide credence to the statement

I think that Sam stated this very effectively. These people are using our rules of engagement against us in a very effective way. I think that we are naïve to think that we are rehabilitating these radical muslim crazy people. I feel for the people that are being slaughtered and I think that ISIS will eventually try to bring their terrorism to this country but until we develop the intestinal fortitude to wage the type of war necessary to eradicate or erase their will to fight then we should not put our blood and treasure in harms way in a half baked measure to try to help people that are not defending themselves. 800 ISIS came into Iraq and put thousands of supposedly better trained and equipped soldiers on the run. Until they show me they are willing to fight this enemy themselves I would not want our people there. When and if they go get the politicians out of the way and prosecute the war in a strict military fashion with the intent of destroying the enemy threat whatever it takes.

The simple act of shooting ones enemy lacks the emphasis, that a beheading has, when that enemy himself lacks any real value in himself or his worth.
Would not a man of values and a soul fight for and his head and heart?

And truth be known are these lives any more deserving than those who die on our streets each night? How many young people died in Chicago this weekend, this year? Does any one really care? Our should we?

    I will address this..

:tu: Much better post than LOL!!

To address Biscuit and anyone else wondering:

I know i cam across as a total D-bag/american flag waving/GI Joe/tea party/redneck militia in my initial first few posts, sorry It does upset me seeing innocent men and women being executed and be-headed for there religious beliefs. I know it has been going on since the beginning of time, but it still doesnt make it right in my eyes.

I also guess for some i need to validate my comments. YES biscuit my opinion is from my practical experience in theater.
I am a Army vet of 8 years. from 1999-2007. I was active duty for 3 years, and reserves for 5. My MOS was 63B (diesel mechanic) I was in the reserves and activated to active duty to join a support unit with the 101st airborne, late 2003 into early 2005. We were in Baghdad when Saddam's statue fell, and we then proceeded to Balad Iraq to work with marines to overtake the Balad airbase. They cleared the way and we then went through clearing building after building. I say "WE" because during the operation it didnt matter what your MOS was, you were a soldier first. So yes I experienced it firsthand, the lack of value to human life, rolling through walls/roadblocks of living human beings, woman and children blocking the roads. and yet it does still bother me to see innocent people being slaughtered and beheaded. would we make a difference by going back over there? temporarily, yes! Long term, No not at all. is it worth risking the lives of thousands of americans? No not at all. My first few posts were written with emotion, not clear level headed thought.

I hope this clarifies and validates my opinion to those who feel i needed to validate it.

Well then SPC allow me to publicly apologize for my flame, and say thank you for your service and sacrifice to the our country. You have already done more than 99% of America, you are less than one percent of our society that has done what you have done, so well done.

Now down to business as a 20 year veteran my self 12 of which was spent in USSOCOM at Bragg. Is it the right attitude for you as a soldier to have, absolutely it is. You've done the deal son, and made it home to people who love you. You can bow hunt and spend time with family all you want. It's time someone else musters some intestinal fortitude and laces up some boots. Let it go! Focus on your 50 meter target here at home which I'm sure you already are. However, if you are still in the reserves then I'm sure you will get your wish.

My two boys will inevitably go over seas to kill terrorists there is no question in my mind about that. But to help validate what you are saying there is no helping them with respect to how they conduct business as a culture, they are who they are. Just like we are who we are, they think we suck, and we think they suck.

However, we encourage free everything in our country like it or not thats the way it is. Thats the reason we have stuff like Nukes, and porn. Again you don't have to like either one but we have it, some like it some don't. They don't think like that. They believe that the collective should believe, and behave like the individual in charge. They have no regard for human life at all thats why they cut heads off. We should all respect the fact that they mean what they say, and they say and do with emotion, and anger not rational which makes us different. This is not something they are born with this is something from day one they are taught as children. They want what we have but don't wanna deal with the guilt trip about having it. They would love nothing more than to eat a rack of ribs at one of our famous BBQ joints here in NC, and thumb through a playboy, but again they are so brainwashed that they have to rid themselves of guilt. They do this by doing what they do. Beating there women because the males are sexually frustrated. Sexually abusing little boys because it happened to them as little boys, rather than put a stop to it they just continue a cycle that will never go away. And they are guilt ridden for it, blaming their own infidelity on western culture, or so they are told.

There it is in a nut shell, just my thoughts. And again allow me to publicly apologize for flaming your thread.

Awesome stuff Biscuit!!! Thank you for your service and dedicating 20 years+ of your life. you hit the nail on the head. I guess i should have stated my experiences earlier, because i honestly would have responded the same way you did! :tu:

and like you said, i do need to let it go. I'm not my 20 year old self anymore, but that pride runs deep and hard to let go!!

EDIT: I added it in my sig to avoid any future arguements
