I was recently scrolling through Facebook posts and came across a picture of a "trophy photo". Every season is the same thing so I'm not sure why it finally struck a nerve. This particular guy had a nice buck on the ground with a hang on stand covering the front half of his body while the bow covered that back half. The only thing that was really exposed was the head and antlers. Call me crazy but this bothers the hell out of me. When is there ever a reason to throw your stand into the picture and covering up the deer while you're at it. The product placement is getting ridiculous and is to the point, in my opinion, of disrespecting the animals we're after. It's annoying but I'm okay with people saying what they used, but throwing everything in the picture? Come on guys. This photo was over the top but the same can be said for any other gadget being held up. The focus should be on the deer and nothing else. Thoughts?
More than likely he was sponsored by that company and he is required to have pictures with product placement. If your willing to take on a Prostaff position with a company to promote the product and in turn receive some sort of benefit for doing that, then you do your best to promote the product in the manner that the company requires. It does need to be done tastefully and done not to take anything away from the animal or the hunter in my opinion.
Whatever you do, DON'T comment on it. Someone else will go crazy on you for having an opinion. Something similar just recently happened to me, as per another thread. Anyway, I agree, it can get a bit over the top. Makes you wonder if they already have a deal with the product and owe it to them or if they are phishing for free gear or a "share". A bow and a bottle of scent eliminator is fine in my opinion, a bow and your plot seed bag/mineral is also fine with me, but covering your deer in every piece of gear you used is a bit over the top, might as well have the deer laying under your truck too
I totally agree with you, on the other hand I don't have an outdoor product that needs endorsed. With the power of social media and all the new company's and new products popping up, this is there means for advertisement and to reach the hunting community quick and cheap. I do think it's crazy and the hunt should be more personal. It's prob not an option for pro hunters or other pro staff to not advertise the products that helped them to be successful and those company's are keeping food on their family's tables. They gotta do their job, it is getting out of hand however.
Maybe he moves around a lot when he hunts and wanted to show that with his stand in the picture? The only thing In my photos is me and the deer unless it's for some team points
It's ridiculous. I saw a pictures once (I just tried to find it and couldn't) and the guy had his bow, treestand, trail camera, scents, and food plot seed all the picture with him with his buck. But if we are complaining about pictures, I dislike when people only take pictures of their deer in the bed of their truck with blood and trash all around, or sitting over it like they are riding a horse. Have a little respect. But to each his own, I seldom complain but just hide or unfollow those guys .
I see two different types of photos. The hunt/retrieval photo, and a photo op promotional photo. I expect the retrieval photo to include the deer, hunter and bow rig. Promotional photo op, can include anything but I would agree the deer should still be the focus.
Absolutely agree with all the gear and product in pictures is over the top. I could care less about what you use and I certainly don't care about your sponsorship if that is why you have all that crap in the picture. Having your bow in the picture is one thing but everything else... This too ^. There is something about a deer in a truck bed full of trash that looks "trashy" and disrepectful to me. Along with the riding the deer pictures, give the animal you took a little dignity. Another thing that gets me, is you guys that don't smile in your pictures! I don't know what it is with some men and not smiling for pictures. Maybe as a women this sticks out more to me but man, some of you look very unpleasant over your dead deer!
I have taken the last couple years pictures of bucks from the back of my pick up. Both deer were transported after recovery in a complex sensitive manner where the priority after location was moving the deer. Pictures at the scene were not an option. It was not breaking the law or trespassing. I had a friend suggest I take the deer down the next day to set it up by the pond and get some nice pictures, that was not going to happen.
I think some guys want to come off with that Clint Eastwood kind of look, the "I got this" look. The one that portrays the "I do this all the time" kind of look. lol
Well, I see a ton of posts here from guys asking what bow, scent, stand, arrows, broadheads, toilet paper, etc., etc., did you use to kill that buck. So, the way I see it, you asked for it and you got it. You only have to go as far as our own contest to see this. Bowhunting is all about the details, and those photos that include all the extras, fill in a lot of the blanks. Not saying that I am a fan, but it certainly doesn't surprise, or irritate me.
I'm guessing the deer felt more disrespected by the arrow that was shot through it and knife that cut out it's guts rather than the tastefulness of the photo.
Another thing that gets me, is you guys that don't smile in your pictures! I don't know what it is with some men and not smiling for pictures. Maybe as a women this sticks out more to me but man, some of you look very unpleasant over your dead deer![/QUOTE] I dont smile in any pictures not just with game Step daughter said same thing when she saw photo of me with first bow deer.
I've never personally understood this need to overtly prove your "respect" for an animal you just killed. I roll my eyes when someone tells a dead animal "thank you".
I ordered a wrap for my deer, should I get one, will look similar to the side of a Nascar without the number.
I've done this to hide a gaping hole in the animal. Some people prefer not to see that. Is that wrong?
It was definitely a prostaffer. There are a lot of ways to promote products. Using the deer as prop for those products is not one of them.
