I've had HughesNet for about 4 years. I've had their 1.5mbps service, then downgraded to the 1.0mpbs becuse it literally never gave you anywhere close. Don't even think about using it during peak times, you will get barely better than dial up speeds. I SO can't wait to fire HughesNet. My In-Laws recently just upgraded their HughesNet to the new Gen 4, and I was able to get test speeds of up to 6mbps, but she's had connectivity problems and had the tech out two or three times. I don't understand why HughesNet has such an issue, but they are just terrible, I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

As for the 100mbps, yeah total over kill, but it's part of the package that comes w. all the movie channels. They are offering 15mbps, or 30mbps bundles, but they have less channels, so since I'm already paying way more than the $179 for my services, I figure I might as well treat myself since I've had soooooooo much pain in the past.

Hey man, I can't blame you for going all out. I am moving this Sunday and where I'm going I am able to get internet at 20 MBs so i'm pretty excited to be able to watch a youtube video without having to stop and let it load three times for a 1 minute video. But that's Comcast and they said they can't seem to find the address so they had to have a surveyor(thats what they called him) come out and actually look for the house. They couldn't just google map it apparently and now thats all straightened out so they are coming tomorrow to install everything so we will how it goes.

Isn't direct tv dish too??? Anyway a buddy of mine we convinced to get direct tv for the nfl ticket and it was horrible. Their customer service sux, every time the weather wasn't perfect the service went down. When they installed it they cut Comcast wires so his Internet went down. And they also canceled the install 4 times. He had ordered it before the nfl season started and we finally started watching it around week 6. My opinion one of the worst providers out there. I have Comcast and they are awesome. Fix most problems over the phone!!!

No, they are not the same. They were going to merge at one time but it didn't go through.

Ive been happy with direct. Just an issue with price. They resolved that. They are installing the genie right now.

Exact opposite for me. Direct customer service has been great while Charter, my old service, was horrible. The install was great, and my service has only had interruptions once in the year I've had it. That interruption came during a really bad storm that eventually knocked out power.

Glad this got bumped back up, need to cancel the auto renew on sunday ticket.

tfox, do you use an external hard drive with your DVR, if so is it still compatible with the genie?

I think customer service is all about the rep that you get on the phone. I've never had a bad experience, yet, but other than weather knockouts I haven't had any significant problems. I knew the weather issues going in. Really don't like inclement weather on Sundays, hoping Superbowl Sunday is clear skies.

I was happy when I was with Direct TV but when it came time to cancel due to moving, I had nothing but issues. When I read the word direct it makes my heart rate go up and my blood pressure go sky high lol. I have dish now and I am really content!

I wonder if they have different prices in different areas? Our bill is $53 and change with the genie in 3 rooms with all the hd channels, The movie channel package here is $45 for all of the HBO, cinemax etc channels. That's $98. I do not have the fox sports package, I do not know what it costs?

Sports package is 10 or 15. Plus we have 1 more receiver. They were also charging us for hd service.

That was the issue. New customers were getting better pricing than current ones.

But we got the new customer pricing.
