I've been with DirecTV since 1997, but Friday evening was the final straw. I turned on the TV after work, ESPN Classic had been removed from my programming package. This of course, was after my monthly bill had raised AGAIN. That was it, I called Dish and have a instal scheduled for next week. I even called Directv, gave them a chance to match the offer from Dish. 12 year customer, and they basicly told me to go fly a kite. Anyway, rant over.....who has Dish network?
I have Dish Network....I was kinda thinking about switching to DirectTV after my 2 yr contract was up. I don't know...I just hate the fact that I have to pay extra to get any kind of outdoor/sportsman channel. I had the America's Top 200 and that didn't give me VS or the Outdoor channel. So I upgraded 50 more channels just to get two. They definitely have it figured out and out of all those channels....I probably only watch 20 on a regular basis.
I have to pay extra to get the Outdoor Channel on directv, and VS isn't even an option with them now.
i had dish for a long time, they were actually a decent company to deal with... currently a comcast customer now cuz of my internet needs (no dsl in our area)...
Oh...I thought they had VS. I think DirecTV has the Sportsmans channel which Dish does not...unless it changed.
VS is worthless to me. Too much crap on in the afternoons. When I get home from work, I want to watch a hunting show...NOT 2 guys beating the crap out of each other. I am going to talk to AT&T today and see if I can get Sportsmans and Outdoors. As for DirecTV, I will just say that I worked for 2 years as a Technical Support Rep. for them. The things that they do...well...let's just say I would NEVER be a customer. Their overrall customer service experience is something I wouldn't want to put anyone through, as I'm sure many of you have found out firsthand.
I have Dish and have also had Direct. They both are about the same and are always making great offers to switch but if you read the fine print they aren't really giving you anything other than some lower costs for a limited time. One trick they use is that they throw in all sorts of pay channels then when the offer expired if you don't contact them and opt out you suddenly start to get charged a high rate for them. Cable TV is coming to our island and I might look into getting bundled long distance, phone , broadband and cable TV.
I had them in 2006. I do not know how Direct TV matches for quality, but I can tell you everytime there was a storm my service was gone. Internet remained, but it was usually in and out so that wasn't reliable. I have since moved and I have the local cable company and I'm much happier with both of my services.
That is going to happen no matter which dish service you go with. If there is anything that can interfere with the signal to your dish, you are not going to get service. These "interferences" may inlcude: heavy rain, snow, ice, wind, leaves (believe it or not, it happens), etc. I switched to AT&T and picked up their U-Verse. I could not be any happier. Fiber optic lines FTW!!
i have Dish, and i had Directv awhile ago and switched and have been happy with the switch. The reason we switched was that Directv did not have are local channels but even with that i like the programing better than Directv's
I had Dish for 13 or so years. What I like is you can tell you moved the dish to another location, they don't have to do it. I use an another address to get the locals I want and it is billed to me right here.
Haha funny I was going to post up a similiar question earlier today!! I am getting ready to move and the place that I am moving to does not have cable service so i wasnt sure which satellite provider to go with?? I ended up ordering Dish today because they offered the best deal and only charged me $2 for the Outdoor channel added to the Classic Silver 200 package!! the thing that sucks is I am now going to be paying more for a phone/DSL internet then I am for the Dish service.......Grrrrrr!!!!! I will see how it works out in a couple weeks!!
We have a bundle program here with Embarq I get Home phone, High speed internet and Dish Network basic 100 channels + locals, for $100 a month. I added the outdoor channel and a couple of days later... Versus magically appeared to, I'm pretty happy with it right now.
I would have loved to get Direct TV, but I have too many trees in the way (satellite is S/SW from my backyard). So, I am stuck with $$-Comcast Cable-$$.
I've had Dish for 10 years. A couple months ago I finally got an HD TV. I called Dish and they wanted to charge me a bunch of money to upgrade to HD..... while I had10 year old receivers mind you. If I was a brand new customer I would get it ALL for FREE. I was pissed and reminded the person at Dish that I was a customer for 10 years and that they were going to lose me if I had to pay. Well after a few more calls I got everything I wanted and more. I'm glad it worked out because Direct doesn't have the duo receivers that Dish has. And I have 7 TVs in my house and didn't want to have 7 receivers that Direct would require to run them.
We don't have FO access, nor do we have cable access. When we bought our house, we went with Dish simply due to the price/package advantage over DirectTV at the time. Plus, my parents have had DISH for about 10 years. I'm very happy with the choice.
I just went to a thing in town last night that featured comcast coming to our island. Right now I pay about: $75 for Dish mid range plan cable TV with some movie channels but no DVR and no HD , $55 for telephone with $10 long distance allowance from Fair Point $30 for Globalnet broadband internet 1.5 MB service Total= $160 per month It looks like I can get a special 1 year start up for the following from Comcast $90 for the following top tier digital TV with on demand and movie channels with HD and DVR Unlimited digital voice with long distance with all the extras (keep same tel number) 6MB broadband service I need to check it out and figure out how expensive it will be after the year is up.
