Try corn on 4' rows (single row planter) with over seeded with brassicas. I think you will be surprised. Then rotate into beans the next year.
I'm considering beans next year as well. I will need to fence due to lack of ideal location for a larger plot. It's a catch 22, though, as it has lot of nutrient benefit during the summer, but it's a great attractant for fall and even late season feeding. I want to try it out as an experiment. When I gain access to a larger neighboring parcel, I already have several 4-10 acre fallow fields I will eventually do larger stands with it. We don't really have many local bean fields, but tons of corn, including my parent's property (my main piece).
That's an interesting idea. Twin rows on 4' centers may work even better. I've had 60' swaths alternating between beans and milo before and that worked pretty good as a companion planting, looked damn cool too but it was kind of a pain to spray and harvest.
