After a 5 year killing spree with my Allegiance, I've decided it's time to move on... it's not her, it's me I've been looking at new (old stock/overflow) and gently used bows, '09 and up. What I've come to love is the smooth draw cycle and wide "valley" of the Mathews DXT. This is my front-runner. However, I see none in my price range at the moment, and being a lefty, I can't exactly go to my local pro-shops and test-shoot new bows. That's where you guys come in... I've also been looking at a Reezen 6.5 and attempting to compare it with a DXT & Diamond Marquis (both of which, I am fairly familiar with). That said, I've never ran an arrow through a bow with less than a 7" brace height. So the question is, how much of a difference in accuracy can I expect? I understand that a 7" brace height is "more forgiving".... so please don't state the obvious. What I'm looking for is an elaboration... a comparison! Also, a Drenalin has recently entered the running. I have never shot one, but expect that it's very similar to the DXT as far as specs, draw cycle, etc... only longer ATA. Is that a fair assumption? Thanks!!
I have no mathmatical equation for the brace height, and I'm pretty sure there isn't one. It all depends on how steady you are after the release. If you aren't gripping the bow after release or pulling away from form, then your probablly going to be ok. I think anyone will tell you though, don't buy it until you've giving her a ride. As far as the drenelin goes in comparison to the DXT I have shot both I shoot the drenelin and my buddy shoots the DXT. There is a notable difference in the draw cycle. Both have smooth draws but the DXT has a much harder "wall". It's all about preference. Im assuming by wide valley, you are talking about a hard wall, if that's what you like then, I'm not sure you will like the drenelin's cam. The axle to axle with the Dxt is for sure quite smaller than the drenelin, that DXT is a pocket rocket! I am sure you will be happy with any mathews bow just as long as it feels good when you test drive it, like I said earlier it's all about preference. In the hunting group I hunt with one shoots a reezen, one shoots a switchback, one a DXT, and myself a drenelin, each guy swears by their bow because it fits their particular style, that's why mathews rocks no bow is the same
I've owned a bow with a 5 3/4" brace height since 2001. It's very fast and very accurate. It's unforgiving like you wouldn't believe though. Any inconsistency in your form will be magnified into down range inaccuracy. One little flaw and your arrow is way off target. This past season I borrowed a bow for hunting and found the longer brace height(over 7 inches) to be a joy to shoot in comparison to my old set up. I strongly suggest that for hunting you buy at least a 7 inch brace height. Unless you can shoot 60-100 arrows a day with a short brace height set up to maintain form and practice those odd positions taking shots like while hunting. Just my opinion based on what I've had to deal with for the last 10 years.
