Our general season opened today so i get my second tag but will still be hunting with the bow. I spent last night getting everything ready and spent the morning packing everything into my pack grabbed my bow and headed the field. The wind was good for my ground blind on the edge of a clover field. Got my orange on, backpack on, release on i was ready to go. I reached into my case and.... no quiver lol. I couldnt do anything but laugh at myself. So back home i went 15 mins away and needless to say got a late start to the morning.
It happens..... I've left my release in the house before. Luckily it's only about 200 yards from my stand so I just went back and got it.
I've forgot my release enough when practicing that I finally started carrying a spare in my fanny pack.
Well, it's better than what I pulled last year. I drove 2 hours to Kentucky, parked the truck, pulled the bow out of the case and realized that I'd left the quiver at home in Tennessee. :D
I did that this past weekend... thank the lord that i had another in my pack. always gotta be prepared!
Every single hunter makes mistakes, it is what you do after the mistake is what matters. Now if you repeatedly make the same mistake then you may be considered stupid.
One time I drove to where I was gonna hunt (7 miles or so) and realized when I got there I didn't have my bow with me.
I've spent a couple hours sitting in a deer stand just watching nature cause I've left my release at home. I brought out a hunting partner so had to stay out with them while they were on my property.
Ah no worries. At least you weren't hunting out of state! I do some occasional rifle hunting and had a "click" this season. Luckily I got a 2nd shot off and downed him.
A couple of years ago, my buddy and I hunted a farm in the morning. He set his bow down by some old farm equipment while he relieved himself. We drove to another property a few miles away for the afternoon hunt, and as we got ready to head in, he realized he didn't have his bow! Didn't take long to realize that it was still leaning against a tractor tire!
I went to a new blind this evening and get all settled in and realized I left my range finder in the truck a mile away. I still would have shot out to 35 yards and just guesstimated, lol.
I've forgotten my release before. Now, whenever the hunt is over, I strap the release over the bow. That way, I figure, wherever my bow goes, so goes a release! And I also keep the quiver full of arrows attached to it. and a cheapo spare release in my pack.
