How much balls does it take to sign off on killing the guy responsible for the biggest terrorist attack on Americans ever? I mean really, let's not be naive here the president did absolutely nothing here, just as bush wouldn't have. It would take balls to NOT sign off on such a mission knowing the political backfire that would cause. Obama deserves zero credit for doing something he had no choice but to do, and neither does bush. Our troops did 100% of this.
We've been tying up loose ends for about 18 months now....It was time for the CIA to let the people know....uh, I mean, Bin Laden to die....for the record, (last week) LOL!!!
You guys can’t put politics aside for 5 stinkin minutes and just acknowledge the take out? The time, effort, and deaths involved in finally hunting down the guy behind 9/11. I know you guys nit pick & love to argue, but it is really unflattering when you get into “debates” like this one.
Rybo, it is called politics and philosophy. There is nothing unflattering about trying to uncover the truth and trying to suppress bs. It is our jobs as Americans to understand the who/what/why/when so that we can better understand the world around us.
First I am not being Political at all, like I said I am more suprised, sorry some took my post the wrong way. Second Tembry there is no easy call when you are putting our military lives at risk. This could have gone the other way also. So let's be thakful it went right
It is not a shame. It is America and that is what makes us great. We have the willingness to debate in a vigorous manner and still remain friends, even in uncomfortable times. Certainly you would know that being you are are from UVA, and our most ardent historical supporter of our First Amendment Rights was Thomas Jefferson, the founder of UVA.
doesn’t sound like we are.... talked to a few of my SEAL buddies early this AM and they were catching hell getting to work. closed all the entrances down to the Base and funneling everyone thru one all day. said they were on/at high alert. also the news talked about it being Team 6 who headed the OP but i was pretty sure 6 changed their name to "Developmental Team" anyone heard diff???? oh yeah.......... glad we got him!!!!!!
Agreed, but at the end of the day this will go down as something Obama accomplished. That is no disrespect to troops, Bush or anyone else. For people to get on here and say "Barry didn't get him..that's disrespectful to the troops blah blah blah" is just ludicrous. If there were a debate going on here it would be in regards to how the mission was accomplished, where do we go from here, etc. etc, but instead the argument is whether or not Obama gets the credit. Always reminds me of the quote that goes something like, "Want the greatest argument against democracy, spend 5 minutes with the average voter."
If all the do gooders had listened to Olie North a couple decades ago..... he would have been long ago fish bait. Yup, Obamas spin doctors will be annoiting him as a hero. The boots on the ground found him and got him. Yes, Obama has to approve an attack within a foreign country. When they found him what coulld Obama do but say "GO". Obama approved the mission to get him. Seals took him out. I bet all the Seals are strutting high and proud today. This compound came under scrutiny last August. Obama had supposedly approved a bombing mission but was talked out of it because we wouldn't have evidence of his death and would probably have caused a lot of collateral damage. Sure they'll retaliate.... but that sucker is done. In my best Tony Sapprano voice, "He swims with the fishies". LOL
They are saying they didn't know for sure if he was in there. In the past, they waited for concrete proof and it allowed OBL to slip away. I'm glad they went in for a closer look this time. They didn't wait, they didn't notify the Pakistanis, they just went in and got the job done. Well done boys.
While at first glance, it's easy to give Obama a bit of credit for "making the call"... let's be realistic here. I'm willing to bet that those "calls" are made far more often than you or I realize; there's a darn good reason that we didn't strike "from afar" as was mentioned in today's press conference. With THAT scenario, Yes... you do have to own up to having "made the call"... By sending a team of SEALs in? They go in under the cover of darkness, kill everything that moves, and are out before anyone knows anything... If they can make a postive ID on the target, then everything's hunky-dory and someone gets to take a bit of credit for "making the call"... If the target isn't ID'd? Nothing. Nada. Not a word. You never heard of any ops yesterday. Ops? What ops? Gang violence, musta been. Don't tell me THAT scenario wasn't discussed before this went down. Edit -- that's not necessarily a slight against Obama. Heck, I'd bet every sitting president would like to have the option to have that "out"... irrespective of the party affiliation. It's one of the reasons SEALs and other elite teams exist.
Very happy to all involved came home alive and a job.... well done. Time to bring are people home and let other country's take care of there own yards. Let's clean up are own country and get fuel prices back in line and the economy jump started and everyone back to work If it is not to much to hope for.
I give Obama the same credit for this as I do blame on Bush for the terrorist attacks. NONE!! They were just the sitting President at the time of the event. Some people can't get past that fact. Thanks to our troops!!
I was reading a few news articles online while I waited for the president to speak. One of the reports stated that "Two senior counterterrorism officials confirmed that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan last week." Yet president obama reported that the operation that resulted in the death of osama and the capture of his body was conducted yesterday. This president (like many before him) lies to the face of each and every American.
This isn't the article I mentioned above but it's similar and has the statement. "Two senior counterterrorism officials confirmed that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan last week." http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2011/05/01/general-us-bin-laden_8444589.html
