I whacked a doe last week & had to drag her back over to the land where I shot her. I gutted her out near where the deer come onto the property from across the street. when i walked to my stand this week, I definitely caught wind of the "dead" smell. do you think the deer notice this or will they just walk by? I didn't see anything out on Monday, & was wondering about that. I did go back & cover the reminants w/dirt.

I have heard from several places including Dr. Jamed Kroll North American Whitetail Magazine it don't bother the deer one bit.

I'm with Tribal buddy, I killed a deer two years ago that was 10' from a pig I had killed a few days earlier. No problems there.

Hey don't worry about it. I have taken a deer within 20yards of a week old gut pile. They are used to things dieing and that smell. I can not believe that the yotes did not get this by now though. Good luck in that spot Hank.

Last year during rifle season I killed a doe in the morning at 8:00 am.
At 3:30 I killed a buck out of the same stand and he was 5' from her gut pile.

My buddy just called me with a report of his hunt this morning because he was hunting in one of my spots. He saw 12 deer, and eveyone of them walked by the spot where I field dress the does I shot last week.

    I don't think it matters

I've seen them walk up to them and smell them then walk away.

I shot my first buck worth mounting while he had his nose buried in the gut pile of a deer I'd shot the day before. ;)

been my experience that animals generally pay little attention to gut piles and such
