    Fellow Bowmen and Woman:

I was sitting in a favorite stand last night and saw nanda for most of the night. Then at the last 2 min. of shooting in comes a big 8 or more pointer. It just appeared never saw it coming and from the wrong direction. It was so cloud cover that I hardly see. I did not shoot because I was afraid to not hit what I was aiming at. I was also afraid the coyottes would eat it before I could tag it. They are thick as thieves the last few years.

Did I do the right thing?

    Scotty

I think you probably did, for me if your instinct said don't shoot then you shouldn't second guess yourself now.... IMHO // TrackSoup

Don't ever question yourself for doing the right thing. You knew it was too dark for you to feel good about the shot. Thank you for doing the right thing.

Sounds like the right thing to me. Hopefully you will be rewarded later in the season for your patience.

I would say you did the right thing. If you are not confident in making a good shot don't take a bad one. I have come across hunters who have told me that it was really dark but I think I was on him and in my opinion if that's what goes through your head at full draw you should not shoot. Good job.

If you feel you couldn't of made a proper shot, you did the right thing!

You followed your gut and that is what is most important. You definitely did the right thing, don't second guess it.

If you "think" or "might" make the shot DON'T TAKE THE SHOT! You did the right thing, anyone who would have just slung an arrow hoping is an IDIOT.

Absolutely you did. You need to feel 100% that you can make a quick and clean kill before even drawing the bow back.

Yes, you did the right thing, if you think in your mind not to shoot cause its to dark or not an ethical shot, than you 100% did the right thing! Youll see him again, and when you do, it`ll be all good! Best of luck.

I pray every person reading this that would have slung an arrow realizes their wrong in their mindset. I highly doubt they'll post but I appreciate everyone backing up the OP, sadly there are probably already 20 hunters who have read this that are thinking "I'd of slung an arrow."

Like everyone said, you did the right thing! If those conditions were like that and you had a gut feeling like that you don't want to second guess it. He will come back don't worry about it

I personally wouldn't have taken the shot either so I think you did the right thing... But only you know that and you have to go with your feeling and not anyone else's on matters of when, where, what, size, distance, time etc to shoot a deer

Well done for doing the right thing! That shows you have a great deal of respect for the animal you hunt, and that you hunt by a code of great ethics that more hunters need to follow!

Of course you did. You made a choice that broke no laws and hurt no one, so in my mind it couldnt have been a bad one. If its legal shooting light and I can see my pins and the animal, Im shooting, but thats my choice, doesnt make what you did wrong.
