The activity is minimal in South central. I have definitely seen the most activity on the last days of the season.

9 weeks is ridiculous. I only have a few days to play with this year so it will be Nov 6-Nov 11.

    9 weeks!!! Wow.

I get 3 weeks now and I get 5 personal days on top and 15 sick days a year that accumulate up to 180.

I max out at 5 weeks vacation in a few more years.

Every time I get a new boss (happens frequently in the world of sales), I have to explain to him/her that I've got Nov. 3 - 12 off for the rest of my life. Wanna know when at least one of my weeks of vacation will be? THAT one. PERIOD.

    There's your answer. ;)

Can't go wrong with either. I usually take off the third week, only because I would go right into the gun season here.
    (Friends and family tradition thing).
I always did OK, but felt I was missing the prime time. This year I took the first week off, as well as many other guys here.
That beast I killed last year was on 11-3, I passed another shooter that was cruising, and my dad was having tons of action as well.
The "live" thread is gonna be rockin, should be fun. Let's do this!

Very possibly, but when I have killed it has been very warm. Always had a south wind as well.

I think IL will be good Halloween until shotgun. I think I'd rather have the 4 days off in the first week and use the 3 day weekends as back up.

TJ, you actually favor the third week, yes?

Yes. There is no doubt the first week produces chasing bucks. However in my experience the big boys are still flirting with daylight, at least with any consistency. At least in my part of the country. By mid second week mature bucks will be in lockdown with hot does. By week three, at least by mid week, the big boys will again be on their feet searching for does. IMO this is the time to capitalize as it is THE MOST ACTIVE period for mature bucks during daylight hours. Just been my experience with the deer I have taken.

The rut is triggered by photoperiod. Fact. The moon will play a part this year early as its gonna be dark early. May push a few more on their feet that first week. But again. IMO the mature deer just won't need to. Should be a lot of movement that week though. No doubt about it.

That said. Regardless of moon phase the actual breeding portion of the rut will take place the same time as it always does.

Hope you get a crack at a good one bud!!!

3rd week here is shotgun, give up 3 days on the weekend of you take it then.

Lockdown, that has been my biggest gripe several years running. I'm going to pull up the previous 7 years at work tomorrow to see when I took off.

I just need 2 weeks straight and never have to worry about it lol, work won't allow it and I still love my morels just as much
