Tonight was wild to say the least. After this morning I was a little bummed but made it out for a late afternoon hunt. I didn't get into the stand until 4:02, as I was pulling up my bow two does and a fawn were on a path 50 yards from my stand. Things cooled down until close to six and then it exploded. I had a couple of small bucks come into my area and they were just mulling about. a few minutes later I heard a distinct twig snap and shifted my attention.

Sure enough I had one of the 10 pointers that Mechdoc and I are hunting moving along the fence line toward my shooting lane. The adrenaline started kicking and I had my trusty Katera on standby. The wind was in my favor and nothing would go wrong! But then it did, for some crazy reason the buck turned and headed South which makes no sense and he came from that way before hitting the fenceline. He then walked to a trail that heads North West and headed down until he caught the trail on the East that comes by Mechdocs Stand as darkness started to take over. He went and hit the scrape we found this morning and then vanished off to the North as the rain started to fall.

This guy was 25 yards away and two steps from the shooting lane and he backed out. I was still as could be and the wind was in my favor, it is as if the Buck had a sixth sense and new to turn back. I can't wait to let Doc know what happened and who I almost shot tonight, tomorrow is another day but tonight has me pumped. Nothing beats a good day of work like your first day of Vacation;)

As for the buck, he will now be known as Ziggy for his zigzag pattern he took tonight. Here is a pic of Ziggy from August, he was ten yards east of this photo.

He probably likes Doc better then you!! Once he realized who it was he headed over to Doc's stand to give him a shot instead!

An 8 pointer that was taken in July, he should be a decent buck. I'll call him Fergie Lover.

I drive by that spot on my way home from work every night. If I see him dead on the road, I'll make sure to chop his head off for you guys. :D

Oh Chit! Temp just dropped 10-15 degrees and dark clouds above. I'm wearing 60 degree camo and my face is covered in mud because I forgot my face mask. Looks like it's gonna get nasty! UGGHHH

Oh man, I am bumming. It is so still & quiet out there. It was driving me crazy, I was working out in the yard, & just kept thinking I wish I was doing what you're doing raceway. Any time out in the woods is better than what I was doing. See anything tonight? I am going out tomorrow morning, gonna use my blind out on public land.

You missed a great night Hank! I had no action until 5:30 then called in a 90 class 8 pointer with my ghetto puppet can. I let him walk around and almost out of sight then hit the can again and he came through the area and under my stand. When he was almost out of sight I grunted and got him upset, only to find a fork horn the Mechdoc is familiar with come running in. I watched them tickle their antlers together for about 4 seconds and the fork worked off. The little 8 then rubbed on one of the little saplings he has been marking and walked off, about that time I saw another buck that never came close enough to see the head gear as it was getting dark. This was the first time I have ever started a fight with two bucks and a grunt tube;)

While I walked out empty handed I was also blessed at another interaction in the woods that you don't see much on TV. I called in a few small bucks and got them to engage and realized that I still speak the language. Now if I can get the big guys to come in, time will tell but I am pumped. Tomorrow is another day and MECHDOC will be there for the fun!

Don't be so sure. Those fat fingers tend to stick out like blaze orange! Can't really miss them even when you are not looking for them.
