We had 8 full sized greenhouses and 4 cold frames. We had the business for over 20 years, but sold it as part of the package when we sold our hardware stores. I worked exclusively in the greenhouses for 6 years in HS and right after. I enjoyed it quite a bit. So, if you have any other questions or anything don't hesitate to ask. Its been about 15 years since I worked there, but I may be able to clear the cobwebs a bit and remember some things!
Ive got 2 inch tall sweet corn, pole beans are up, zuchini up, spinach up, tomatoes up, green onions up, cilantro up, thyme up, oregeno up, rell bell peppers up, banana peppers up, tomatillos up , dill up and Basil up and we have had daytime temps last month up to 89 degrees and now freezing nights.. WTH, Ive quickly grown tired of covering everything... but the weather is warming up again thankfully. Thank god ive lost nothing to the frost so far !
I planted last weekend: squash, zucchini, 4 different peppers, 2 tomatoes, and 3 cucumbers, and various herbs. This is obviously before I planted. And yes, I'm aware I needed to mow my backyard at this point.
Yep I covered them, but the frost did hammer pretty bad some of my ornamental ivy and flowering plants etc. Luckly were supposed to FINALLY get some rain this weekend its been a pretty dry spring here so far. We need the rain and I want to bowfish some of my favorite coves on the lake soon, but the lake is extremely low with the lack of rain.
The farmers were busy planting corn by my house today. We had temps down to 28-29 degrees the other day. I didn't plant any veggies yet but I have apple, peach and cherry trees that I was worried about. I think it will be a few days before I can tell how the fruit fared. This weekend I'll put in some tomatoes. But I need more carp. Only buried 26 so far.
We had 21 degree's 2 mornings in a row here. No gardens in that I know of. A few flower gardens i'm sure got burnt. Gotta feel for the grape and apple tree farmers though.
Low 40s here again but no frost... YAY! My butterbeans are beginning to come up. The squash, tomatoes and peppers all seem fine. This should be the last of our cold but we desperately need rain.
