Hi guys I am new here and have a few questions. I was offered to buy someones Delta Deer Decoy they have for sale. Does anyone know how good these are and are they worth getting? Is a decoy in general worth having? I hunt in PA and this year I am hunting in IL also. Thanks for any help!!

I think it would be fine to try out. I have a carry lite decoy that I use. I think the beggest thing is setting your decoy up properly, like positioning the decoy to where you will have a good shot. A buck will want to approach your decoy from the front, so make sure when it's setup you have a good shot, keep that decoy broadside, not facing you or facing away from you. Decoy hunting can be very experimental, there are so many ways you can use these things. What can be even more affective is to use a doe decoy with the buck during the rut, sand even sometimes put a bigger set of antlers on your decoy might have a bruiser running your way faster than you can grab your bow, good luck.

They can make the difference and they can send the deer running to the next county. Is it worth it to have it in your arsenal? In my opinion yes, I have killed does over decoys as well as bucks. If your not prepared for the chance of a deer snorting and running off then don't use one. If you except it may ruin a hunt then try one it just could be the difference for a curious deer and get a sweet shot off. Bottom line, they can work GREAT and they can make you think why did I try using that. lol
I like the option of having one if I feel the deer are getting aggresive. Scent control on the deer is the single most important thing. The deer will work and approach to the downwind side everytime.

I have had better luck in Illinois useing it as a buck decoy, The trick I like to use is to only put on one antler and that way it doesn't scare away any little bucks that approch it.
