Holy cow!!! That's scary how clueless and uneducated a lot of officials are on the subject of firearms. Yet they're so adamant to ban them.

So, I emailed her to enlighten her and I basically got an automated response back that said she only responses to questions from people in her district. So she can cast a vote that directly effects me, but she doesn't have to answer to me. That just about sums up how screwed up our system is.

I don't agree with this. She only has to represent her district and constituents. If you are not in her district she is right that she should not have to answer to you. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I agree, but I wonder if anyone actually informed her she was sadly mistaken. If so, did she listen.(obviously in this case, she didn't)

The United States Congress represents the United States, they do not just make policy for their own districts, therefore they should be held accountable by everyone.

DeGette’s spokeswoman Juliet Johnson issued a statement Wednesday, saying the congresswoman misspoke.

“The Congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years, and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said. “Quite frankly, this is just another example of opponents of common-sense gun violence prevention trying to manipulate the facts to distract from the critical issue of keeping our children safe and keeping killing machines out of the hands of disturbed individuals. It’s more political gamesmanship that stands in the way of responsible solutions.”

The 'correction' is even more astounding! First, it comes off as 'clearly, she knows what she's talking about because she's been working on this FOR YEARS. ....don't you dare question her knowledge!'.

Then it goes on to make the completely asinine statement that she meant 'clips' and that those are not reusable. HAHAHAhahahahaaha!

    Way to go Colorado voters!

Anyone who thinks our state and federally elected Reps. And Sens. are there to represent us are mistaken. Just ask IL senator Kwame Raoul out of Chicago.

“What I’ve always said to my constituents is that it’s not my job to do what is most popular amongst you. It’s my job to do what I believe when fully informed is in your best interest,” Raoul said.

Member on another forum attended and videoed it, so it is an exact quote.

I'm not saying all our elected officials are this way, but I'm willing to bet Raoul isn't the only one. Might be the only one ignorant enough to publicly state this, but being from Chicago they have no fears of not being re-elected.

I don't think you understand. Every part of country is supposed to have separate elected representation in Washington of what they believe in. If you want something changed you call your representative of the voting district you live in. You have no reason to try and communicate with other people's representative. She does not represent you in any way shape or form.

That's a awesome explanation ha. I guess facts are jus made up to get political gain toward something that's not the popular vote.

I fully understand how the legislative branch of our government is supposed to work. I also understand that they are only voted for and elected by members in their district, but they do not just represent that district. Their vote counts equally in all laws that effect me. They could be the swing vote, and to say that they do not have to answer to the American public points out much that is wrong with our system. Is she were just a state legislator, I would agree with you.

I never expected to get a response from her, I just found it funny that the automated email stated, basically you don't have a say in me being elected, therefor I don't have to respond to you.

How would you feel if the some lefty hippies were calling your representatives and lobbying them and applying pressure for something you support? Would you want your elected representatives having to answer to or taking heat from other parts of the country? I wouldn’t.

I don't want them being influenced by anyone except for the people of their district.

We'll agree to disagree about this. If my representative was as dumb as this woman, then I would expect them to get as much pressure as they need to get their facts straight.
