I got a call from a good friend of mine asking me if I had any input on something that works for deer deterrent. They are in the trucking business and have locations all along the east coast. In the last week they have had 3 deer run out in front of trucks. Of course the deer is no match for the 18 wheeled truck, but the problem they encountered on the most recent incident was that the deer came up over the hood and through the window of the truck and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle as he shielded himself from the deer (parts) that came through the window.

Yes, we are both aware of the whistles that are available for sale. Wondering if these actually work or is there a better solution out there that anyone has any input on. Do the whistles get clogged up with snow and mud from the road? Do they even work?

Any feedback you can please give would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

^^what they all said....bought them for my sister after her third deer incident and they just fell off after one season.

A big ol cow pusher on the front of the trucks would work well :tu:

6 that is what I was going to say, a big heavy duty cattle catcher will work, not one you buy at a suburban truck accessory store, a real on with thick walled steel.

Id have to say they work. If they don't it's a small investment. If it deterred one accident it would be worth it

I've actually seen these on some big rigs going down the interstate. It's just a giant grill guard.

The cow catchers that actually work well are big, burly and not usually aesthetically pleasing. The ones that are aesthetically pleasing usually just cause more damage to the vehicle then if they weren't on there to begin with.

I don't know about deer whistles as I have never really heard anything when a vehicle that is equipped with them has passed me when I was out walking.

Maybe I am missing the point of them but they don't seem to make any noise. I'd think you would be better off with the big cow pushers.
