long beards come out in the day time more than a mature whitetail buck IMO....SO DEER is harder in my state anyway

For me deer is harder to hunt, but also I have turkey hunted for more years than deer. My dad was a turkey hunter, has a grand slam x2. So I have always turkey hunted. I just recently got serious about deer. My friend who just started turkey hunting would say that turkey hunting is much harder.

I have a much more difficult time with turkeys, but I am getting better. I have always killed deer. I don't always kill a turkey
Some big ol tom's are uncallable, just as some wise old bucks rarely if ever move during daylight hours.

Turkey are definitely harder. I killed dear as a young teen. Maybe it's my area but hey are way easier than turkey. I've been striking out for days.

I kill (more than one) deer every year with the bow, I have yet to kill a turkey with the bow so to me deer are easier.

IMO most turkey hunters will take any Tom that gives them a shot therefore having more encounters turns into more shot oppurtunities as where a lot of deer hunters will pass until they can take a mature deer resulting in maybe 1 shot a season. There are a lot of other factors that can be thrown into the equation but for me since I've had the luck year after year with gobblers Id say hunting *mature deer is much harder.

I think it depends... Are we talking "mature bucks" or just "deer" in general. When I go out to shoot any deer, I pretty much fully expect to kill something. I've killed several deer on my first hunt of the season... With a bow. That can make it seem pretty easy. This was my 3rd year trying to kill "any" turkey, and I finally got it done. So when it comes to killing any deer vs killing any turkey, I'd say a turkey is harder. But when it comes to killing a mature buck vs any turkey, the buck is going to be more of a challenge.

It's also a regional thing I believe. Around here, the Turkey population is nothing compared to the deer population.

Yeah that's true area plays a huge role in it. Turkey are real spotty here in Md. The Eastern shore is packed with them but where I am in central Maryland there is only small flocks here and there and yesterday I spotted over 100 whitetail while turkey hunting.

I can't pin down a gobbler to save my life. I've been trying for the last week and a half. I get them to gobble and then they hang up right away. I can't figure them out. A few times in the past I've gotten lucky and took a few with a scatter gun. Deer, on the other hand, I see almost every time I sit. I'll at least see some does and smaller bucks every hunt. I see or shoot at a mature buck every now and then...much more often than I even get a look at a mature gobbler.

Jakes are dumb just as button bucks are, the true comparison should be Toms vs Mature Deer.

Toms are tough but a lot easier to close in on than a old buck.

Turkey hunting is harder for me but I'm not nearly as experienced at it as I am with deer hunting and I'm not sure that time will change my opinion, big ol bucks will probably always be easier to call in.

I think deer are harder to hunt. A turkeys eyesight maybe better, but deer have really good eyesight and a keen sense of smell.
