What did you shoot it with?

When you say tenderloins, are you talking about the inner tenderloins or the backstraps?

I shot the deer in question with a rifle. I am talking about the inner tenderloins. There are 2 pics posted. You can see the inner tenderloins. I usually cut them out before i bring in the deer.

Did you hit the shoulders or close to the shoulders? You can lose a lot of meat that way. Otherwise, I think 28lbs is pretty low. I butchered out a doe fawn last week and got more than 30lbs of boneless meat. (granted, it was a big fawn)

I get your point, but there is no way to earn credibility on the internet unless i give you my personal information. I am new in the forum and wanted to get opinions about what happened to me. I dont really care if you believe me, but if it was made up, it really wouldnt matter, because i still want to get the opinions of others. Yes , this is very true, yes the deer should have yielded twice what i received. No, the butcher did not deliberately mean to screw me. Yes, i got shorted a good amount of meat. I have reserve about the amount of meat some of the hunters are reporting. I cant remember getting less than 30lbs of meat back from any deer i have harvested! I guess the corn deer here in the southern tier yield more meat. In conclusion: process your own deer. Go to a different butcher. Too bad for me... Well, i will tell you, I will ask nicely for my money back and as a business owner, he should remedy this situation, as i am the customer. I have given him many deer over the last years and never complained. Two this year alone! I have pictures, witnesses and a measly 28lbs of meat from a mature doe! I am still pissed, and no more tags!

If twelve pounds of meat causes you this kind of grief, I feel for you. As for the $80.00 get over it .
You were paying about $1.60 a pound for him to butcher your deer and you got 28 lbs already, so at best your out less than twenty bucks, if that breaks you, then you have bigger fish to fry.
I hope you have Happier holidays ahead of you.

Where did you hit it? If you shot it with a rifle, I wouldn't be surprised if you lost a lot of meat to being bloodshot.

I can also see why your tenderloins were so small. When you open up a deer that far they're going to dry out pretty quick. As well as opening up the insides of the hind quarters like that.

65% of an animal is waste. That includes hide, entrails, bones and fat.

I appreciate all of the comments. i also appreciate reading all the other posts in this forum. Thanks for your opinions. I hope everyone has a successful and enjoyable hunting season. I enjoy bow hunting much more than gun hunting. I am a meat hunter. When i finally get my next home, i will start to butcher my own deer. That is the best bet! Happy Hunting!!

If you paid for 20 gallons of gas but the pump only pumped out 13 gallons would you be okay with that?

If he expected 40-50lbs of meat, he has a right to ask 'what happened?' to the meat processor. That's not whining or 'grief'. Maybe his expectations were too high or the processor screwed up. He had taken deer there before w/out complaints so I think he at least needs an explantion from the processor. It may just be that the bullet rendered some meat unsalvageable or... the processor screwed up.

I've had processors screw up. I used to take my deer in when I worked 60-80 hours a week. I barely had time to hunt, much less process deer. (and we went out for rifle season so I'd have 4-6 deer to deal with) I once asked for 5lbs of a deer to be made into hot dogs. (I hate hot dogs but not everyone in the family did) So... when I get my order... I had 50lbs of deer hot dogs. 50lbs! They had hot-dogitized an entire deer. That was costly too because those stupid hot dogs were expensive.

Another time I got an entire box of deer salami. (30lbs) instead of the box of wrapped meat I was supposed to get.

Both times I had brought in at least four deer so I was getting many boxes and didn't comb though them, i just loaded them into the truck and left. The salami was a screw up they didn't charge me extra for but I did pay for the hot dogs. (bleagh!!) I called to ask if I had some boxes of meat still there when i got the deer-dogs. They said no, that was my deer. :( They did offer a total refund tho'. Which I did not go back and get. (too much time to go back there and mess with it... I had more money than time in those days) If that happened now, I'd absolutely get my money back.

    So.... screw ups do happen.

I now process all of my deer myself. :)

That sounds about right to me... Except for the part where you only pay $55. The locker here charges $95. Cheapest I've found close (20min drive) is $75.
