So here is the deal, sat the past two days and see and hear movement right before day break then nothing not even a hint of movement. Is it still too early. I took off work and I think I may go back tomorrow no sense wasting vacation time.
i sat yesterday...opening day in NY....and saw nothing day or night....sat between food and bedding on hot routes with tons of trailcam pics in that area and still saw nothing.....between moon phases, rut phases, warm weather, ect deer are unpredictable man...no matter how much effort you put in to predicting where they will go they ultimately will go where they want to.....you could go back out tomorrow and see 3 times as many deer.....wait that would still be none....anyway good luck man stick with it and hunt smart....still early in the season to which is why i try to take a week in late october or early nov to catch the rut.....they will come around though....stick to it
I agree... hunted Thursday thru Monday... All cameras showed movement during the full moon at night.. Not alot of activity at all during daylight hours.. But thats just on my lease.. October 13 thru 17th I will be back in the stand during a NEW (NO) moon !!! Can't wait !!
Same here. The moon phase has made all the deer movement nocturnal. I have 3 set ups currently all with trail cams. I went from getting pics during daylight hours to all pics at night. Like All4Hunting said, once the New Moon gets here it's on!
I went back to work, i will be out during evening and then on the weekend. I have a 4day weekend this weekend. It is supposed to be cooler and the moon is waning. I have to go TDY 15-25 (really who sends you TDY during hunting season) but my wife will be out there....so is that 14 pointer i saw
Same here. Hunted the past 2 days on 2 different properties on long island(NY). Saw nothing on Monday and when I pulled my cards I saw that day time movement was way down. Tuesday I Went to my other proportie, pulled my cards got into my stand and popped the card into my picture viewer. 80 % night time and the rest were at last light. Sat Till 12 and then went home. From august through mid sept I have almost all day time pictures. That last week of sept the deer became more nocturnal. My cameras are over food sources and on trails going to bedding areas as well as staging areas. They all show the same thing. HOWEVER.... my buddie saw plenty movement in the morning on Monday. He was just a few miles away. I definitely believe the full moon affected movement but every proportie/deer is different. I will be back in the woods Friday-sunday.
I've been seeing 5 every morning around 530 in the field across the road (no permission to hunt). I have not been seeing them out there of an evening. Sat on stand last night in the rain/mist/drizzle by a well worn track to a big oak and acorn pile. Only activity was a chipmunk, squirrel and blue jay.
I found them! The place where i shot the doe, it has multiple trails crossing buck rubs and acorns so ill be heding back there this weekend
I have always heard it's supposed to be good hunting around full moons. My experience has been the opposite.
I've seen the most movement on new moons. You really can't tell when they'll move though... if you could you'd be the most successful hunter ever.
Deer have been moving like crazy here the last few days between 5pm and dark, don't know the difference but hunting here has been great.
