It was my fourth trip out and only my first morning hunt. I to my stand at about 6:15am. Could hear crunching above and below me. I thought I could hear a faint grunt above me, but all the movement was below me once it was light. At about 7:30 I had three doe walking all over below me. I thought I was busted because the larger doe was walking up my trail to my stand and sniffing around. It kept looking up but didn't really seem startled. I was froze like a rock. Good thing, right then the buck I thought I heard earlier came trotting and grunting from above me. It was a decent 7pt but I was waiting for something larger since I got a nice 8pt in Sept, so I enjoyed the chase. He found one doe he liked and wouldn't leave her alone and chased her up the hill. He then decided it was time to try to destroy a little tree and then sharpened up on a little sturdier tree. I grunted at him when he was a safe ways off but he only had does on his mind. Anyone else in Wisconsin having any luck or seeing more bucks getting in gear?
My dad shot a nice buck Friday night in Southern Wisconsin....was hunting a marsh that serves as a bedding and drinking area and he grunted lightly 3 times and the buck came in looking for a fight. My dad took him down and the buck didn't make it more than 30 yrds. It's definitely almost time for full-swing rut in Southern Wisconsin.
I'm in NE Iowa so pretty much the same area. I haven't been seeing too much this past weekend. Some light chasing. No responses to any calls I did. I just heard from a friend that was hunting around Cedar Rapids area this morning that the deer movement was crazy this morning. Deer moving everywhere. 2 P & Y bucks that he passed. Just what I love hearing at the beginning of the work week.
In Trempaloua county we have had bucks running everywhere my dad shot a 7 pointer and uncle shot an 8 but yea tons of movment but farther down south in jefferson county not to much happening
Spotted a buck and three doe across at the neighbors around 6pm today. Walked back down with binoculars and it was a nice 8pt dogging a doe. He chased her across the road once. Pawed at the ground and chased her back across the road. Then he chased them all back up in the woods. Stood around for about five minutes searching for him but could only hear crashing as he would not leave them alone.
Here in my area of SE Green county, not much activity yet, seeing some deer, but usually stragglers. Have yet to see any chasing activity. Seeing some scrapes and rubs, but not torn up like usual. I shot an 8 pointer 2 wks ago in the morning around 7:15am, he was walking along the edge of a cornfield and walked right under my stand while checking scrapes. We are in the CWD Earn-a-Buck area here, this is the first yr we can shoot a buck first in quite some time. Not sure what you think about Earn-a-Buck, but it definitely improves the trophy buck scene - check the State Records to verify!
Finally a little action here in Monroe county I passed 3 bucks as they were cruising this AM Here's a pic of the busted 8 I had him dead at 22 yards
