I always wanted to hunt with a decoy but i never really knew what to do. Could you guys give me some tips like buck or doe for what times? Thanks
Well I don't use one because usually they aren't the best thing to use. From what I have seen and read about is #1 I hope you have a lot of open area and a call.
I don't use them all that often but when I do I see some cool stuff. First buck I ever shot tried to hump my doe decoy. 2 times, once including this year had a buck ram my BOSS decoy. He was a 150" buck called Tines. Filmed my buddy with 6 bucks around him. The biggest buck kept on walking around the BOSS decoy trying to figure it out. I use the decoy in all phases on the rut. Place the buck decoy facing you at about 20-25 yards. If your using a doe, face it away from you at about 20-25 yards. If using both at same time. place buck at 20-25 years and the doe 10-15 yards. If a dominate buck comes out he will go to the buck. People say the go to the nose of the buck decoy... not always. I had Tines circle around and ram the buck from behind. Do some late calling and maybe a rattle. This will get the dominate buck motivated to come in and they will come in kinda fast if they do.
The search function is your friend. There are more out there if you look. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=20094&highlight=decoy http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=17243&highlight=decoy http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=17068&highlight=decoy http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=16816&highlight=decoy Good luck.
Like all things in hunting one day they are the best thing going and the next they spook all the deer away. Having said that I love to use a buck decoy. The first time you have a buck come in to kick the decoys ass, It does not mater the size of the buck it is fantastic. Here are a couple tip. A buck will try and face the decoy so point the decoy at your stand or blind. Keep the winds blowing in your face, so the wind is blowing from the decoy to your stand. I like to rattle with I use a decoy, when you rattle buck will always try and get down wind of the decoy before coming in. This is true even if you are not decoying. So I look for a place were the buck cannot get down wind of me like a river or very step ridge. I also put buck tarsal gland lure on the ground around the decoy and spray the decoy down with a scent eliminator. One last tip I use is to put a white clothe on the decoy for a tail, this give the decoy a little movement when the wind blows. There are many more tips you can use.
