If you don't know what you want to get, then you really don't want a tattoo. The only one I have, I saw it and then wanted to get it as a tattoo. A lot of mistakes people make when getting a tattoo comes from wanting one and then picking it out. That's why some people regret getting them.

I agree with this 100%. I never wanted a tattoo and then one day a design popped in my head. From that point on I wanted it as a tattoo and eventually got it.

Yeah, but you knew we would be BFFs when you got my name tattooed on your arm. Not everyone has that luxury.

I have two tattoo's neither hunting related but very special to me. I'm lucky enough to have a great tattoo artist. I'll tell him what I'm thinking in my head and the meaning to me and from there he draws up a couple of ideas. I've loved everything he has done. Imho if your looking to get something you should go 100% with an original piece using published or common tattoos will cause you to lose out on the greatest part of having one. People will always ask what the tattoo means and you get to tell the story. This tattoo of mine is a prime example My kids nicknames when they were babies were pumkin and peanut. From there the stem of the pumkin repersents a family tree and the garden shows life and the act of growing. If you want a hunting tattoo go for it but plan wisely as it will be with you forever. pumkin.jpg

I agree with everyone else. I have 2 tattoos and the reason I have them is because it popped into my head and I was dead set on it. Pretty soon I am getting another one that means alot to me. Also the tattoos that I have are not visible unless I have my shirt off. 1 is on my ribs and the other on my back. I wont get a visible tattoo because I dont want to get looked over for a job because I have 1 that they can see.

heres what I did for my first tatoo. I draw some and things pop in my head from time to time. I had some free time one day and drew up the one on my arm. I really liked it that day and wanted to get it done right then but, I held off. I was single then and put the rendering on my mirror in my bedroom that way I had to look at it every day. After 6 or eight months, I still wanted it as bad as the day I drew it so I went and had it done. To this day I still love it. No one else will ever have it either. The artist transfered it to the ink paper they use, did the tattoo and I burnt the original and didn't let him take pics.

Make sure it is something you really like before you have it done if that means looking at it for a while to make sure you really do like it.

IM am sleeved so I can tell you from experience once you know what you want tell the artist and let them do it.
Just remember you are commissioning an artist not a house painter. Let them do the art their way and make sure you like their work then you will always be happy with it.
Now if I was getting a hunting tattoo I would get a silhouette of a hunter at full draw in his stand and a full color secne of a buck in the field color with some black and gray looks really good.

I wanted this cool tattoo that went from the nape of my neck, over my trap and shoulder and down my arm. Then I put on 100 pounds, so I'm really glad I didn't get it, cause I'd never show it off now. Plus, they're a little particular about tattoos at office jobs.

I have a deer skull with a stone arrowhead behind it on the upper middle of my back.

I have another non hunting one also. And I'd have a lot more if I had an easier time of deciding what I want to get.

I overheard an argument between a couple across the street one day. The guy was yelling "I've been trying to get a job there just aren't any out there". The girl says, "there's work out there they just won't hire you because you have tattoos all over you neck and face".

No Lie this guy had to be drunk out of his mind to get the tats he had all over his neck. One is a fist holding up the middle finger on the side of his neck. And another is a naked woman kinda like a dancer or something.Who would hire him?

I have 2 tattoos none of which are hunting related, and can be hidden. Do yourself a favor and get it in a place where you can easily hide it if you need to.

Exactly. I would never hire someone like that unless they were only working in a warehouse. I have 2 tattoos and if you saw me on the street you would never know. Im going to get a tattoo done under my wedding ring but it wont be visible if I dont want it to be.
