Yeah, first couple of days were rough with the heat and wind, but it was still a great time. I would do it again this year if my family hadn't planned a reunion in Florida for the last week of October.

That is terrible timing! Depending on what part of Florida, I'm sure it will be nice tho.

You’re still young. At this point in my life family can plan whatever they want for late October and November but they KNOW I won’t be there.

Now that I think about it that’s probably why they would plan it for then.

Yeah, the trip was supposed to happen last year and was cancelled. That is why I ended up hunting with you and @LittleChief. I blame my brother, he married a woman in October and her family doesn't hunt. They go to the beach in Florida every October as a family trip and thought it would be a fun family reunion. Any other time of year I would think it is fun, but the timing does suck. I am not a beach person. I would rather be in the mountains. At least I will get in a day of charted fishing on the gulf.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the fact that this will be the first time that my extended family has all gotten together since my cousin's wedding a few years ago, we wouldn't be doing it.

I like new moons best, easier to sneak in. I strictly hunt mornings, if I hunt evening it is an all day sit.

I can't count the times I've been heading down on a full moon and get to see the deer snorting bounding off or the glimmer of antler busting out.

Deer tend to be on their feet more those 2 hours before sunrise, many a times I have been on stand and see the shadowy outline of a deer feeding 40-50 yds away or get to see them rather than just hear them an hour before legal shooting light as they pass by the stand.

This year I'm looking most forward to Nov. 2nd - 6th, full moon will fall during shotgun season. Ideally would like a crisp frosty morning and high pressure with light wind, but wouldn't we all

The times I do hunt the full moon, not going to sit out the entire thing due to time, I always get excited when there's heavy cloud cover. Never really noted any major difference, but it does something for the morale thinking it may have deterred deer from clear sky movement.

But a new moon, clear sky, look up to find Orion and head down to the stand can't be beat.

You guys need to get your mind out of the gutter. Mine is already there…

I never really felt moon phases were consistent with deer movement. So many factors seem to change it from year to year.

I use this app and for the most part it is just great for sunrise and sunset times. I used to buy a Moon Guide every year - back before Adam bought the rights to it. I tried to pay attention to it and see if I could line up any sort of success or patterns on deer I was seeing, but never got any sort of definitive findings to say whether it was accurate or not. What I found was that since I had a limited amount of time to hunt, I was going to go out any chance that I could get, red moon or otherwise. Unless you have the freedom to pick and choose your hunts on a whim without worrying about work or family obligations, it doesn't seem to do a whole lot of good. Yes, you can use it to plan days off to go hunting, but IMO the weather plays a much bigger factor in deer movement than the moon does.

When I was oooober anal, way more than now, about entering every noteworthy bucks travels (camera, on stand sightings and such) in an excel spreadsheet one of the items I put down was moon phase. I concur with many thoughts shared, but you know how we often times see travel tendencies of bucks consistent year to year within a few days? I noticed that yes just purely on calendar days it was crazy how I could predict a sighting on specific bucks within about a 7 day window would happen. However, moon phases on some bucks seemed to nearly pinpoint to a three day window.

It is a factor worth tracking if you desire to be very "crazy" about things for sure, and my observations backed that it one hundred percent will and does impact a number of deer in movement tendencies it seems - weather fronts and such however also do and at certain times of the year I think get deer up on their feet as a whole more than the moon - may not be the deer we want to sling an arrow at, but deer up nonetheless.
