I hunt deer to turn them into food not to take a photo. Both are noble pursuits.
    I am a hunter.

Currently I am only a hunter... But I go into the woods with every intention of being a killer.

All i tried to say was; instead of hunting a crappy spot.

I'm OPTING to hunt where BIG DEER are...which in my case is forest preserves.

    IF I COULD KILL THESE DEER I WOULD!!! but i cant.(its F.P.)

But i get a thrill out of the HUNT.

Shootin'em with my camera takes all the same skills as shootin'em with my bow.

My freezer is always full of deer.

Comes down to the question; Crappy hunt w/bow or Shoot MONSTERS with my camera?

You are simply having a debate about the definition of a word. Simply put in the context of the fact your on a bow hunting forum your going to end up in a losing battle trying utilize the word outside of the implied definition in the very name of this website.
So rather than keep wasting your time with it just realize most people on a bowHUNTING site assume that hunting implies harvesting the animal at the end of the hunt.

I have not issue with what you do and I am sure its fun for you.
    Enjoy it.

If my choices were: A) hunt where I could only kill does and dinks, or B) film big bucks but not bring home any deer....

    I'd pick choice A.

Big bucks, particularly in forest preserves, don't excite me at all. To each their own tho'. :)

I wonder if the OP realizes that this is bowHUNTING.com?

In order for me to kill a deer... I must first hunt the deer. So what you are really asking, is are there any PETA supporting, non-Hunters among us? Looks like at least one!

As Christine put it, I pick "A" too. I'll shed hunt the preserve when I can bring something home!!

I'd think if someone was just a "Killer" they're not going to waste much time with a bow, the hours on stand spent to get something shootable in range just doesn't make much sense for the pure "killer" mentality. Why don't you burn some boot rubber and find a good spot you can hunt that has big deer?

A hunter is someone who is attempting to kill, a killer is someone who is successful in the hunt. We are all both.

Shooting (with a camera) big bucks in a preserve IMO is like shooting fish in a barrell not a very hard thing to do with no hunting pressure what so ever.

Now go somewhere and call in a bruiser where there is a lot of hunting pressure then you are hunting. that is my Opinion. regardless I believe you are fighting a losing battle

When you are setting in a tree(or blind overbait or food source) and shoot a deer - that is deer harvesting...all you do is sit and wait, look, see, shoot and kill. NO HUNT. When you still hunt or spot and stalk...actively search out and pursue the game - That Is HUNTING. Hunting is going out at searching for food...be it deer, berries, or roots etc....something to eat. If you are stationary and collecting food it is harvesting and in the case of wildgame it is simple harvesting. I harvest alot of does but I feel there is nothing to brag about when you shoot a nice buck out of a tree especially. I have passed up shooting 15 bucks this season...shot 2 does...and yes if a 10 pt had come under the tree I would have prob'ly shot but I would be more proud of the 6 pt I still hunted last year.

If you are not shooting over bait then you had to hunt for the tree to sit in. It would be ridiculous to just go sit in any tree and not very productive. The hunting takes place when you are looking for an area that deer would have a reason to be in, you know, actively searching out and then pursuing the game. After you have hunted, searched out and found that place to pursue the game then you get in the tree and wait.

hahaha.. Funny sh.... But yea hunters kill... Don't get me wrong, I love to take pics while in the stand too. This year I took pics of doe after doe within bow range, but when it was time to kill, it was time to kill. Not that I won't kill a doe, in fact does are all I could take down with my bow until this year ha. I love killing and eating does.. but like I said in another thread, if a hunter doesn't feel something or at least have respect for the animal they just killed, then something is probably wrong with them. But I agree with another previous post by b.l., you can't eat your deer unless it's dead.. and I love to eat deer. Kinda hard to stick a fork in 'em when they're still on the hoof.
