I'm a Deer Hunter! I'm finding most of the "hunters" i associate with are Deer killers.
    Let me explain;
Since i dont have access to decent hunting grounds, i've been "Hunting" with my video camera out in the forest preserves. Big old oak woods, plenty of room, different terrain features. You actually need to "HUNT" the deer for any good footage. Like bowhunting 20 to 30 yards away makes for good footage. When i'm out, i'm calling in bucks to within that range, and the FEELING i get, is just like when i have a weapon. Heart pumps/ afraid he'll hear me breathing, shaking....its awesome.
All my friends turn me down when i offer to take them with and experience this, they all say they wouldnt WASTE THEIR TIME in the woods without a weapon.
Which makes me think their just in it for the kill.
I'm in it for the "HUNT"!!!! not just out to shoot deer. Dont get me wrong, i like anyone wants to shoot a wall hanger.
So instead of a crappy backyard suburban hunt with a small possibility of shooting something, i've been opting out, so i can hunt the big boys with my camera.(and being very successfull)
How 'bout you'all....Would you hunt the rut with a camera? or would you sit the backyard?
    Good Luck to you'all.

There is acquaintance that I have that lives for the rut with the camera. He loves to go out when the bucks are all riled up. I always take my camera with me just in case I see something I would like to take a picture of. Of course I usually forget a I have until after the fact. LOL.

I hunt because I love the outdoors, watching the sun rise and set, and seeing the animals I spend so much time learning about, just exist in their natural habitat. I also hunt because I love putting myself to the test to see that if after the 1000s of arrows I've shot into targets, if I can really make the shot when it counts. THAT is hunting. I have the greater part of february through august to put my cameras up, sit in my stand and watch for deer, but when the rut comes around, it is time for me to test all the work I have put in. That does not make me a killer, it makes me a hunter. I would imagine that the people that want to only go out into the woods with their weapons have the same mentality.

If you don't kill them, you can't eat them. We like to eat deer, a lot of them, around here.

I like the hunt, figuring where deer are, travel patterns, playing the wind, always with setting sun at my back, finding a good ambush spot(always off ground-no blind), being quiet and still, calling with success, being invisible in the woods, getting into these areas undetected.
Dont get me wrong, if i had a quality hunting spot to do this all in, i would have my bow(always). But instead of hunting crappy hung stands with no lanes to shoot through, hung right on the trail, always walking in late, 2 hour sits at most, having to put up with someones weird rules, and jumping through their hoops.
I'm choosing to go out and hunt with my camera.
I'm in no way opposed to killing...i havnt bought ground beef in over 12 years...i kill every year...

Heres a good example of a deer killer attitude.
    Any "HUNTERS" out there?

I do all you say that comes with the hunt ... but I love the kill ... so your post is illogical ..... a perfect example of an elitist ... are there any non-elitists out there? ;)

I get what your trying to say but I dont really agree, you can hunt and not kill but how do you kill without the hunt? So killer or not you need to be a hunter first.

What you are doing sounds more like deer watching rather than deer hunting...whatever floats your boat I guess

    I'm a hunter....killing is part of that equation...if you don't like it I couldn't care less

I like to wake them up in thier bed with a nice snowball to the head - what does that make me? (I also like to throw apples or corn cobs, sticks etc...you name it -from my tree, but sneaking up on em' in thier bed is a lot funner)
