SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) - Authorities in northern Wisconsin say a deer hunter who was killed this week was apparently shot when his hunting buddy fired at a deer and missed.

The Douglas County sheriff's department identified the victim as 27-year-old Garrett M. Carr of Oliver.

Authorities say Carr was hunting Monday with 31-year-old Michael F. Thompson of Superior. Warden Dave Zebro says a preliminary investigation suggests that Thompson fired at a deer but the bullet hit Carr in the head.

Such a shame that these stories seem to pop up every year. I understand that occasionally freak accidents happen but it seems to me that so many of these "accidents" definitely could be avoided with more education in proper hunting techniques and practices. :( Its such a shame that these things happen as often as they do.
    My condolences to the families.
