Not a surprise. Deer can die from capture myopathy, and that's without an extensive and invasive surgery. Poor thing.

How much money was wasted on this project ? Seems like this experiment was done to appease the tree huggers. When ever emotion is involved with wildlife management, it's never a good ending. One great example is when the Ontario gov't halted the spring bear hunt in 1999. The fallout from than was horrendous . Moose populations dropped rapidly.....and then there was protection of wolves in some areas....which further complicated the moose situation. Then the incompetent gov't is clueless as to why they are not selling as many moose licences.

The fact that someone, somewhere, thought this was a good idea... is disgusting.

Agreed and it's not the first case either. I believe Fairfax VA and Staten Island NY also did this.

150-160k of taxpayer money. If there was an urban hunt it could have saved or even generated $.

30 or so years ago the everglades were flooded and deer were trapped. if I recall correctly instead of a hunt some animal rights group paid a fortune and tried to rescue deer with a helicopter, managed to catch one and think even that died. after that they declared victory and moved on. turds.
