Would a decoy, doe or buck, help or hurt my sitting over a cut cornfield?
Its time to get back into the stand this weekend and hopefully get some venison for my freezer.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Personally I would not use a decoy during gun season. Sounds a bit dangerous to me. Hopefully you are the only one on a large tract of private land.

While I don't doubt that it could work, my fear of getting shot at outweighs my desire to kill a deer.

Although I would agree that they are dangerous I am not 100% in agreement that they are illegal during the firearm season. I am pretty familiar with the regulations and they say nothing in there about being illegal during firearm season...below is a FAQ from the reg...not trying to stir up any kind of bad fealings...just want to make sure of the above is all...

    Q. Can I use mechanical deer decoys or
    electronic calls for deer hunting?
    A. Yes. Illinois law does not prohibit the use
of mechanical deer decoys or electronic calls
for deer hunting. (Note: both electronic turkey
decoys and electronic calls are ILLEGAL for
    turkey hunting).

Also you could hang a blaze orange scent rag from the tail if you are dead set on using one...that way its a litte safer..:)

If its illegal there are several hunting videos out with guys hunting with shotguns & using decoys. I thought they were legal but I only bowhunt.

perhaps your correct about them being legal. I swear I was told years ago that they were illegal during shotgun season. I would hang a cheap orange vest near it, or wrap it around the thing.

I will confirm if it's illegal or not.
I hunt a small plot that is not visible from the road, only the neighbors cut bean field where you can see me in blaze orange hovering above in a tripod stand.
I was thinking it may draw other deer in to feed or get a passing buck to come into slug range.

Well there was nothing moving and only a few shots heard all day, so I don't think it would have done anything.

My buddy just used a decoy this morning at edge small field. Had a small buck come strutting right at it acting like he was the king lol. He's hanging in his garage now :)

I use decoys a lot. I would never use on during a firearms season.
