I searched and found no good results. I'm thinking of buying the liquid and block form of deer cane using the liquid to lay down a circle and then putting the block in the middle of it. Anyone had any luck with this? Thanks
I used the deer cane block 2 years ago with out any success. The trophy rock didn't work either. I think it depends on the deers diet in your area. If the deer are getting the minerals they need naturally they don't bother with the block, if not then im sure they will use them. So i guess in my area they have sufficient minerals in their diet.
The deer usually stop using these products in the fall anyways. They hit them more in the spring and summer. My $.02.
Deer Cane is nothing but a marked up salt block. If your wanting a block to put out, just go to a farm store (Orschelen's, Tractor Supply, etc.) and get a trace mineral block. Cheaper, lasts longer, and actually has some minerals besides calcium and sodium
i've had good results with the deer cane. no other block or lick i've tried so far. depends on where you are, i'd just try it then you'll know.
Yea I know they hit then more in the spring but it couldn't hurt putting a little out. Think it's best just to put the liquid in a circle then put a block in the middle?
Yea I hear ya there. That's the reason why I haven't ever purchased any type of attractant while Bowhunting. But I have read a few peoples remarks about how the deer destroy the area and even begin to dig holes to get it. Figured I would ask and see if anyone has had any luck with them
We use Tag Out, which is a similar mineral, on our farm and we see some great results. I cant say anything about the block form, but the spots we have put out mixing powder the deer are literally eating holes in the earth. We put ours out in the spring around the edges of our soybeans and corn. There are places that we have dumped it over several seasons that are dug out as big as a truck bed. We only put if out there in the spring hoping that the food plot/mineral combo will help antler growth while in velvet. I have NEVER poured it out and hunted it.
This really isn't an attractant. But last year I applied some Code Blue Tarsal Gland Gel to some vegetation during the post rut (November 26ish) and captured 5 different bucks (3 yearlings arrived at the same time and began sparring, a 2 year old and a 4,5 year old 130ish) on trail camera as well as several does. The tarsal gland is just the go to scent in terms of whitetail communication; it packs a ton of information and peaks curiosity in all deer and they come to investigate.
I put some deer cane black magic out for the first time a couple weeks ago and whenever I make it back out to the area I will give you my opinion as well
I used Deer Cane powder/mix and had good results within a couple weeks ... I think it helps to put in a place known for high deer traffic. At first two small ones (got over 100 pics of them) were the only ones coming but now there are several more.
I highly recommend Deer Cain – Black Magic from Evolved Habitats. I wrote a blog specifically about scouting new properties and this is the #1 mix in the five or six I have tried. Check out the whole blog here.
yea im going to pick some up tonight when im out. Throw it out in front of the camera. I know that MN says that minerals, salts, etc are legal to have by your stand. This would stand true for this product correct? If not im going to move to a different property that I dont hunt so I can be fair to the animals.
If you want to attract deer try this out. I poured comere deer liquid concentrate on this stump at the beginning of October of 07(about (1) quart a month). This stump was solid round at about 10 inches in diameter. Does were all that came until the first picture of the buck Dec. 07 then look at the stump in the 08 pic. They were eating the roots on the side that you cant see in the pic. These pictures are of a place that I threw a deer cocaine block out on the ground during bow season Oct. 06 where I parked my 4 wheeler cause it was in the way. I went back looking for sheds and found where the deer had been eating the dirt. So about every (2) months I would throw a block in the hole and the hole just kept getting bigger. Here is what it looked like in Dec. 07 and what it looked like in may 08. I also am throwing in a pic from another site I fixed up with deer cocaine. I got over 51 different bucks on camera from Dec. 07 to March 08 and had a total of over 13000 pics of does and bucks. Sorry for the long post.
I believe in Minnesota this would be not be classified as bait. The Minnesota Regulations specifically outline this. One thing to note, at least in my experience, the deer become less interested in these sites during the fall/rut. I use this to get an inventory of the deer in the area - but not as a place to hunt over. Good luck! Neal MN Regs Below: Bait or Feed • “Bait or feed” is grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, hay, or other food that is capable of attracting or enticing deer and that has been placed by a person. • Hunters are not allowed to use or hunt over bait or feed or hunt in the vicinity of bait or feed if the hunter knows about or has reason to know about the placement of the bait or feed. • A person otherwise in compliance with this section who is hunting on private or public property that is adjacent to the property where bait or feed is present is not in violation if the person has not participated in, been involved with, or agreed to baiting or feeding wildlife on the adjacent property. • An area is considered baited for 10 days after complete removal of the bait or feed. • Liquid scents, sprays, salt, and minerals, are not considered bait or feed. • Any attractant that contains grain or other food sources is considered bait or feed.
