Could some tell me if these items are a food source or attracant source i want to find out if this is legal to use in the southern part of wisconsin
Agree with Pat. Both are attractants, and should not be considered food sources. Deer cane is a salt block that contains something of 90+% salt, so while yes, it will attract whitetails, it provides little to no nutritional value. C'mere deer is another attractant, and I tried the stuff when it first came out, and the deer on my property wouldn't even touch it.
alright good start....the reason why i'm asking the question is because i went to the dnr website and contacted them and talked to someone online chat...he told me that hes not sure about these products because he doesnt bait....and he mentioned that we are only allowed 2oz a day i thought he said....but way it sounds so far is that its an attractant not a bait because there is no food edible that shows up
I'm gonna tell ya that the Black Magic Deer Cane works awsome , i've been using it for years , i reapply it to the existing spot that they now have a hole dug thats 4 foot in diameter and almost 2 feet deep , the ground is like clay so it holds rain water really good............i put it down dry and it absorbs in real well , infact i put a bag out two weeks ago in a new location where there was movement so we'll see what the camera pics up on this new location .
Its a before season attractant to attract deer in front of your cameras , the cameras by your stand .
If I am not mistaken Deer Cane is high in salt. While this may work as an attractant I would shy away as the more salt they get / the more water they drink / the less room for food and protein. It's like you and I eating chips. We love them but they aren't good for us and they make us thirsty.
Oh , i forgot to mention the water hole next to the cain hole for after pawing around there snack while on there way to the bean fields ..........:D
They would both be considered illegal in Illinois, and as far as I know are considered BAIT. If they eat it, it's food
I think what Pat is trying to say is that any food that is high in salt isn't good to be ingesting. If you eat a lot of salt, what happens? You get thirsty and you drink a lot of water. When you drink a lot of water, it takes up a lot of space in your stomach. For a deer, this water filled space should be filled with lush vegetation and nutritious food this time of year, not water, especially since whitetails get the majority of their water intake from the vegetation they eat. Not arguing that Deer Cane is a good attractant, because I have used it and it certainly is, but in all reality it does more harm than good to your deer herd.
I'm not arguing either and i do understand all that , been using salt products for deer for 31 years , i use it mostly for my crop damage permits that we get before season , i usually wack a dozzen Doe's that are at that spot , then donate them to the Feed The Hungry ......so basicaly what i'm saying is the deer that are coming into the Black Magic dont need anymore nutricion , because there gonna be hanging in a butcher shop in a few weeks ........lol
Let me tell all of you guys a little something about C'mere Deer. If you really want to buy some just send me the money and forget about it. Your results will be better than if you bought it and used it. Last season I was seeing deer like crazy and bought some simply because I wanted to get them closer. I spent $125.00 on the crap and it worked as a repellent rather than an attractant. I used it 2 weekends in a row and didn't see anything. Two weeks later of not using it and still nothing. $125.00 of C'mere Deer=1 months loss of hunting. So legal or not forget you ever heard of the stuff. Deer Cane has worked great for me so far. I am however ordering Monster Raxx. Today probably and giving it a try. I will give a 100% honest opinion after trying it out. These products are not foods, only attractants. To make 100% sure, I would contact a local GW and make sure!!! They are usually easy to get a hold of and it is better to find out from those guys than anyone else.
Do they eat it?? An attractant is something that attracts deer by sense of smell only. Urine, acorn scent, etc is an attractant, something they don't consume. Born2Hunt, if salt blocks and mineral licks are illegal by you (which I think they are), then so are these products
Hey Philly, I think you're kind of splitting hairs here. Attractants are baits. Think about it like this. It's an attractant in the bag, but it's bait when you hunt over top of it.
